The Melbourne Cup is nearly upon us for 2019, with 24 horses set to take on 3200 metres and Australia’s biggest racing title. But while that race stops a nation, there is a huge day of action on the cards right across Flemington, and you won’t miss a moment with The Roar’s guide to the entire day.

Things will get underway bright and early at Flemington, with the gates opening for fans and punters at 8:30am (AEDT) to start finding their seats and positions for a day which will feature ten races.

The first of ten races will then get underway with the Darley Ottawa Stakes at 10:55am (AEDT), and run in either 35 or 40-minute intervals from there on until Race 6, which is the Jim Beam Stakes at 1:55pm (AEDT).

While that’s all going on, Fashions on the Field will also keep punters entertained.

Following Race 6, there will be about an hour-long break on the track as final preparations are made for the Melbourne Cup itself, with the field of 24 horses to hit the parade ring at about 2:40pm (AEDT) – 20 minutes before the start of the race – for introductions.

They will then trot behind the stalls and load up for the Cup itself, which is due to jump at 3pm (AEDT). It will only take three or four minutes to run.

From there, the presentation will be conducted, and a further three races run to round out the day, with the final race being the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at 5:15pm (AEDT).

Entertainment will also feature on the day in the form of Birds of Tokyo at 5:10pm (AEDT), and earlier, Owl Eyes at 4:10pm (AEDT).

The two acts were called up after Taylor Swift dropped out of performing at the Cup in the lead-up to the day.
