All placings required a photo finish, but it was Akari who ended up winning the 2019 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

It was the very last race of 2019’s Melbourne Cup day and it proved to be by far the closest, with Akari edging out pre-race favourite Betcha Flying by half a nose to take the race out.

The Brad Widdup-trained Filly – jockeyed by James McDonald – was paying $10 to win and $3.30 to place before the race.
