Here are my tips for the racing in Sydney this weekend.
I had a good couple of late wins last Saturday in the first card of 2020. HQ again this week, so hopefully we can find a couple – particularly now we’re keeping a running tally.
Running total: 8 units bet, 12.6 units won – +4.6 (based on 1 unit win bet on each top selection, NSW dividends)
Race 1: 2 Witherspoon
Rates evenly with Splintex, but happy to back Witherspoon at the better price. Good win first up and should be reasonably fresh here after five weeks off. Bit of a watch on Tailleur, on debut here and has won two of four trials.
Race 2: 6 The Launcher
Good Highway here, taking The Launcher at a nice price. Has won two from three this prep despite pretty ordinary manners, should be running-on. Zardoro, Alternative Facts and Rioli in the mix.
Race 3: 6 Southern Lad
Small field here, expect Southern Lad to go close from near the lead, with Taniko the main danger from the back. Gap to the rest on my numbers.
Race 4: 1 Luvaluva
Luvaluva the best of the seven here if she can repeat her Summer Cup effort. Aqua D’Ivina is racing well and Alward is seven from 15 at 2000 metres.
Race 5: 3 Cuban Royale
Funny little race with a few chances at odds. I’m going with Cuban Royale, a pretty consistent performer helped by the 3kg claim.
Race 6: 7 Showminder
A few of these step up from midweeks. Showminder has five placings from seven runs this prep and might just get there. Tricky little race.
Race 7: 11 Seles
Keen on Seles here, good first up and now back against the other mares. Statuesquely impressed in good Group 3 race last start. Judge Judi is three from four second-up – in my quaddie for sure.
Race 8: 13 Charretera
Charretera has only missed a place twice in 13 goes. I’m hoping the 3kg claim makes the difference here. Otherwise I’m tagging him a non-winner. The top two and Sondelon have better winning records than my choice – rate as the big threats.
Race 9: 7 Mr Dependable
Not likely to be a flash price, but Mr Dependable probably has a bit on these, and is on the way up. Tinkermosa impressed last start and could make the it a big day for Sarge and the apprentices.
And my Gold Coast tip is Race 8, number six, Vega One.
