There are two meetings to look at this Wednesday night, with my focus being on Bathurst and Shepparton.
Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 2, Number 2, Hammertime Harley
Jason Grimson rarely gets it wrong when he brings them to Bathurst and that should continue via this mare. The first run for the new stable came at Menangle when leading throughout and she was dominant. This race looks on the weaker side. She should find the front and prove far too good.
Next best: Race 4, Number 6, Obi One
She has been costly in her past couple but she can make amends with a win here. She was brave in defeat at Penrith last time. She got caught in a speed battle in front and that early burn told late. She should find the front here and provided she doesn’t cop too much pressure, she’s the one to beat.
Value: Race 1, Number 9, The Dancer
He will go around big odds so I’d suggest a small 1×3 play. He’ll need things to fall into place and potentially could get buried on the pegs, but he is racing well. He got stuck in a tricky spot at Dubbo last time out but managed to get clear air and find the line pretty well. He’ll do no work from the gate and could sneak a place at odds.
Best bet: Race 2, Number 2, Azellia’s Fame
A first starter as a best bet can be fraught with danger, but she looks a good prospect for Jess Tubbs with Greg Sugars to steer. She produced sharp change-up speed to win a recent race in Melton and looked the part. She has enough speed in the legs to find the front early and she’ll take a power of beating.
Next best: Race 5, Number 1, Celebrita
She didn’t beat a great deal last time out in Melton, but she was dominant and that might well be the confidence boost she needs to go on with it. She led throughout to win by a space and her mile rate was pretty solid for this class of horse. She holds a forward spot from the inside gate and only runs well.
Value: Race 8, Number 11, Sixty
He hasn’t won in over two years but this nine-year-old is racing well. He held a forward spot from the pole in Melton last time out and battled on well when third to Im No Outlaw. He has drawn outside the second row. He’ll need luck so you should get a decent price and each way, he’ll run a positive race, provided he gets a decent drag up.
