There are two meetings to look at on Thursday, with Bendigo and Redcliffe getting my focus.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Bendigo

Best bet: Race 4, Number 3, Jo An Jo
I am keen on this first starter to make a winning debut. This horse is an Emma Stewart-trained filly that is having start one and has looked the part in a couple of trials to get ready, winning the latest trial at Melton in good style, running a solid time. It will be interesting to see how she goes from the mobile and what gate speed she has, but she has quality.

Next best: Race 5, Number 10, Smooth Deal
This guy is getting better and better since arriving from NZ. It was a big win from him last time out at Shepparton. He did a power of work to find the front and was entitled to fade late, but he found something when required and he was super impressive. This horse has a good second-row draw to do no work and be strong late.

Value: Race 6, Number 8, Fanning
I am happy to speck this guy at a decent price. This horse resumes for Rod Petroff, having not raced since March when his form had really tapered off. He follows out a fast beginner so should he able to hold leaders back, 1×3 at odds, he’ll only run well and is a knockout chance.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 3, Number 1, Clares Fool
He is a veteran, but is racing well and he finds a very suitable race to break a run of outs. He has had the ace draw his past two, each run coming at Marburg, where he has led and been run down. He holds up from the pole and with a cheap sectional, he’ll prove too good.

Next best: Race 6, Number 1, Beejays Delight
I am confident he can get back into the winners list. His recent runs have been strong at Albion Park with the exception of a Redcliffe run two back. He loves to do his racing from in front and that is the set-up he gets this time around. This horse has drawn the pole. If leading, he’ll take beating.

Value: Race 7, Number 7, Lavazza
She is good value in a tricky race, especially if things all fall into place for her. She follows out a fast beginner and should she be able to hold leaders back, she comes right into play. Recent efforts at Albion Park have been sound. This horse just needs luck but if she gets it, she’s in with a big shout.
