There are two meetings to look at on Monday, with my attention being at Maryborough and Newcastle.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Miss Maia
I am pretty confident she can start the meeting on the right note. This horse is on the quick back-up after racing at Melton on Tuesday, where she led and tired late to finish down the track. But the depth there was far stronger than what she faces here, so she should find the lead and prove hard to get past.

Next best: Race 4, Number 8, Sunny Petite
This horse will need luck from the draw, but should she get it, she wins. This horse is a former Kiwi who has had two runs down under, the latest in the Melton race mentioned above when a dominant winner in good time. This horse has drawn inside the second row, but if she gets luck, she’ll be too good.

Value: Race 8, Number 8, Carload
I am happy to speck this guy 1×3 at a big price. This horse has drawn inside the second row, so likely gets back on the pegs, three back, four back at worst. He hasn’t had much luck with gates in recent times, but drawn here, he should do no work and if he gets luck in the run, he could be dangerous.

Newcastle

Best bet: Race 1, Number 5, Patersons Pride
He let punters down badly on Friday but if you butter up, I am pretty confident you’ll be rewarded. He just did far too much work early on Friday night and even though he eventually landed leaders back, the early burn just told late. If he finds the lead cheaply, put the glasses down.

Next best: Race 2, Number 3, Tuakana
He hasn’t set the world on fire in two runs since arriving from Queensland, but he gets a good draw to use, has gate speed and drops miles in grade and depth. If you go off his Queensland form, he has a bit on these and should prove much too good despite poor recent form.

Value: Race 7, Number 9, Im Quick As Fire
I am happy to speck him 1×3 at odds given the map. This horse was a beaten favourite when racing here a couple of weeks ago but he did break in the run, did work and tired late. This horse has been drawn to do no work from the draw and if he can get luck in the run, he’s a definite winning chance at likely good odds.
