Merry Christmas, everyone. Hopefully we’ve walked off the turkey, let’s prepare ourselves for a nice Boxing Day meeting at Randwick to finish 2021 with a nice dinner.
Race 2 – 5 Casino Lord (three units)
Current odds: $3
While Highways can normally spring a surprise through some improving out-of-towner, I think they’ll be doing well to topple 5. Casino Lord, who rates well above the rest. He’s been flying home at this level, finally draws a gate and Hughie sticks.
Race 3 – 7 Five Kingdom (one unit)
Current odds: $5
While having a horrible (0/8) record at the mile, 7. Five Kingdom seems to get favours on the pace this time and is in form. He steps back from good runs at 2000 and 1800 metres, he’s fit and firing and the others will be chasing. 5. Wheelhouse the main danger.
Race 4 – 7 Spaltet (one unit)
Current odds: $4.60
Interesting little Midway with quite a few chances. I’m with the lightly-raced 7. Spaltet, he’s been running well, is lightly raced and might be the best horse here moving forward. At 30/1 I thought 4. Avion Fury was worth considering, he has won at 78 grade and should be cherry ripe at his fourth run back.
Race 5 – 10 Niffler (two units)
Current odds: $3.40
Undefeated 10. Niffler looks a good’un. Her second win was particularly good and it looks like she’ll be perfectly suited by the step up in distance. The others? 7. Rousseau is racing well, 9. Peekays Legacy won well last time and 5. Kaapfever wins this at his best.
Race 6 – 9 Forzanini (two units)
Current odds: $6.50
Two starts and two wins this prep reads well for 9. Forzanini, she’s moving up the grades well and drops weight into this. 4. In Lighten Me is a chance at 20/1 and 2. Steel Diamond is one of my faves, I think she’ll need the run but is a ripper.
Race 7 – 2 So You Win (one unit)
Current odds: $11
Good little edition of the Summer Cup, 2. So You Win comes back from Brisbane where he was rock solid, the 2000 is his peak trip and he goes well on good or soft. 1. Polly Grey comes into calculations if the rain comes and 3. Stockman is going great.
Race 8 – 9 Super Effort (one unit)
Current odds: $6.50
Jay Ford jumps back on 9. Super Effort fresh here. He rode him well last prep and he normally goes well first-up. 11. Nictock will bowl along and could sneak away if at his best. 7. Tamerlane was good fresh while 1. Animate is in well, despite not being suited at 1200.
Race 9 – 6 Blesk (two units)
Current odds: $4.50
Sticking with 6. Blesk. He’s been all around it previously with me on, I’ll give him one last shot. Have 13. Kutayha as one to watch first-up, 1400 works and if ready he goes close.
Race 10 – 21 Otyrar (one unit)
Current odds: $6
Thought 21. Otyrar would have run well earlier in the day, his first run in Oz was full of merit, he’ll strip fitter and this is no tougher. On the watch for 12. Pentacost, he bolted in on debut and is a nice little price if he’s improved.
