They need to explore new markets but it seems they are hell bent on bringing back some old NSL clubs and clubs from Melb and Sydney before anything else

Yeah he has a positive legacy everywhere he has gone. Even at the Matildas, after he left, players still spoke highly of him

It’s amazing isn’t it the coincidence of the nicknames.
Yes everyone speaks highly of Staj, players, their parents and fellow coaches.

The League will bare those costs,
Which will be funded partly by the $200K fee each club has to pay up front.
Interesting, the fact 12
Teams is almost half the travel cost compared to 16, and the AAFC want 12 to begin, it says to me the AAFC initially want a predominately east coast comp. And guessing mainly melbourne and Sydney centric.
This is why three of Qld’s biggest clubs aren’t interested in the NSD. Lions FC, GC Knights and GC United.

I think the investigation is Still going. Im assuming there were a lot of complaints put in so I am sure there will need to be loads of investigations that need to be completed
A chance to celebrate Matildas history in 2023
It’s on page 20 of the AAFC report.
Have a read. FA will have the final say

It’s going to be fascinating to see what version actually happens. I doubt FA will move away from their preferred model

Yeah in NSW we have the northern NSW comp and it works well

I think it’s good if everyone talks and gets on the same page. The problem is that everyone has their own plans of what is best.
The independence of the a leagues makes it harder

Yep we know the club has to invest more. All fans have said it. With a new CEO we can hopefully accomplish this

Great post. You are right. Trying to create lower tiers with promotion and relegation in 2022 is hard!

Any licence sold is a temporary revenue stream for FA.
The thing is, licences aren’t as lucrative as you think.
Western United $18M, of that $14.5M was paid back to them. Macarthur was $12.5M of which I think $10.5M was paid back to them. So while it’s a lot of money ($4.5M and $2M respectively), an NPL licence won’t come near that

This is a long term thing. It’s not on 16 year olds to make teams successful. The fruits of this will be seen in 5-10 years .

A former NSL club with an ambitious president. Bob Turner has lots of great ideas. Hopefully it works

Love your straight forward and forthright view.
Sadly I tend to agree. I don’t see the AAFC numbers as realistic. $1.8M is way too low, when you see the PFA paper showing three times that much, it either says NPL clubs are unrealistic or the are trying to pretend (which is a major problem).
A lot of this comes across as hope rather than any substance.
I agree, the gap is far too big. To me the NSD has always been about south Melbourne getting into the top flight, other clubs have hopped on hoping to feed off the crumbs.
It’s amazing so many AAFC clubs signed off this report but many don’t understand it’s contents.
This champions league format is good though. Although to me, it comes across as FA just humouring clubs and trying to show it can’t be done.
I hope we are both wrong though and it does work

Bang! That is the key issue here. Instead of rich owners, NPL clubs who are structured as Not for profit entities have ‘white knights’. Sadly their pockets aren’t as deep as rich billionaires

Articles have been written. We need more investment in quality players, be they experienced Aussie ones or Marquee visas.
We know the scouting has been poor.
You can’t expect the same level of scrutiny when circumstances are different. Cannuli is in her first season and has a few experienced players but mostly kids coming up against very experienced teams or kids that are in future Matilda programs etc. Bryleeh Henry is the only regular in our team who is in future Matilda’s.
The reason we can’t attract better players is for a number of reasons and yes one is because Cannuli is unproven. But she needs to get that opportunity so we can’t sack her after one season. The players like the positive environment, but they are under no illusions as to where they need to improve

That is your opinion only and you do not speak on behalf of everyone. This team struggled but nothing wrong with rewarding players who performed
Hunt wins inaugural Pat O’Connor Medal
Just go clarify this award is a fans award for the Wanderers Womens Player of the Year. Each round a fan gave 3-2-1 and the votes were accumulated. It’s a testament to Hunt that she was going so well she missed half of the season and still won.
