NRL's back! The Round Review Week One
Mr Mackay, while I am yet to be educated the intricacies of Rugby, especially the forward play (cue anti-League diatribe aimed at my uneducated state), I have really enjoyed seeing the Reds in action so far this season. It’s making me sit up and take a lot more notice or more than just the Wallabies.
Totally relate to the ‘Sports Widow’…my Better Half has already started the, ‘When are the Tigers Playing?’ questions to plan our weekends around…Lucky we are such Male Models and they couldn’t stand the thought of being without our rugged good looks and boyish charms (cough)….
Super 14 is so much more watchable this season
…and the prize for the spotting the embarrassing, and glaring gaffe goes to…Willo! I had 80’s music overload and clearly should be shot. Thanks for paying enough attention to notice, brings a tear to my eye…The Chooks are a bit of an unknown quantity, depending on how they gel, so I’m happy to be proven wrong there. As for the Puffs and Wannabe Tigers, I thought they were well placed, all things considered. Time will tell though!
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
Haha, that’s so true…I can give you coping tips that I use every time I watch Scott Prince play for the Titans…
If Pritchard could manage to play his best footy for more than three matches per year, Penrith would be perennial contenders. With Graham,Coote,Sammut,Walsh,Gordon in the side,Petero & Lewis’ experience they have a great side. With Frankie playing anywhere near where he is capable of consistently, they make for some serious headaches for any side. All they’d need would be a game plan to carry out on the field….not sure where that is coming from.
I was born in Penrith, so will always have a soft spot for the Panthers. When they are going well, it does wonders for the whole community.
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
I rate Hoffman…I think if he gets an extended run in the NRL he’ll be better than Winterstein or Yow Yeh, both of whom are great talents….
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
Well you are the perfect person to ask WHAT WERE THEY THINKING LETTING GO OF AITON!?!?!?
Extreme awesomeness eh? I think I just found a new best friend!!!
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
Terry, whilst I won’t say your thoughts aren’t without merit, I’m not sure Sheens would fit Lote into the forwards. He is already going to have to fit Heighno,Ellis,Flanagan,Fulton and Payten into three back row spots. I’m hoping he gives him a real crack at fullback, not that that doesn’t present it’s own problems as it means Lui/Moltzen and Taumata, all talented players, will be fighting for the #7 spot. Good problem to have though!
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
Wow Matt, that is a tough one.
If Souths play Sutton at 5/8, they have to be considered (Merritt,Sutton,Sandow,Luke) but a lot of how those players go will depend on their forwards. Newcastle also, with Gidley, Dureau, Mullen and De Gois aren’t as big names as the Storm, but they can cause havoc when fit. If the Broncs play Hodges or Falou at fullback, they are formidable, which may say more about how much I rate McCullogh. So many clubs check three out of four boxes, but for mine (taking my Tigers eye patch off) I’d run with the Dogs. Patten, Roberts, Noddy and Ennis….especially in tight games.
Penrith had an awesome nucleus before they let Aiton go…which was a shame. I wonder how many Panther fans loved that idea? Perhaps I just rate him too highly?
I’ll see how much egg I have on my face by mid season before I commit to another review!
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
HAHA! Jarrad’s tattoo story broke AFTER I called him a nutcase…and people still doubt my accuracy?!?!?!
My point on the Raiders didn’t articulate well I’m afraid. You aren’t the first person to point out their table position last year vs my prediction (not that people are quick to shoot me down or anything). I feel this will be an even closer year than last, and one or two wins will mean finishing anywhere from 5th to 15th.So although it might not reflect well on the table, the Raiders will make a leap in their level of performance. (P.S…no one likes a smartarse, that’s why I have no friends).
Tell me, after all this time, you have only just realised I am a weird Human? I thought you were more perceptive than that Mr McKay!
I’m off to sign up for the Comp….this challenge is on!
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
Sheensy is still somewhat of a protected species Mitch, albeit less so than a couple of seasons ago. If the Tigers start the season well, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign an extension. Of course this will mean all hell will break loose if they again fail to reachthe Finals. Any Coach that stares down a CEO, and wins, isn’t going anywhere in a hurry.
How will your NRL team fare in 2010?
It’s ideas like all of those you have listed that makes me think that the soon to be implemented (we hope) Independant Commission should have a small committee of supporter representatives involved at some level offering a real fan’s take on how things could be done to improve their club/fan experience? The suits are best placed to make the big decisions on our game, but can they think like a real, die hard fan? The Tigers Membership packs and information has been good so far, but let’s see how it continues through the season. Thanks for offering your ideas, they’ve really got me thinking….
Improve benefits of NRL club memberships
Well Sir, I will be putting your long held theory to the test, by including The Round Review as an entrant in my Tipping Comp, we’ll see how right you are then My Good Man! (I’m going with 100% right….but it’ll be fun to find out anyways haha)
NRL All Star Game: What an experience
haha…best game of the decade…Love your work Brado! Would have been interesting to see some of those names you mentioned taking part. Maybe next year the boys will have a full compliment of players….now THAT will be something to watch!
NRL All Star Game: What an experience
Mr Mackay! Please refrain from putting pressure on me….I’ve been known to crumble under the weight of expectation. I do support the Tigers after all!
NRL All Star Game: What an experience
Chris, it’s a credit to the ever improving quality of the English Superleague, and augers well (over time) for International fxitures to see players like Gareth Ellis, and seemingly Burgess, take the leap into the NRL and land on their feet. Reilly was a little before my time, although my Dad used to rave about him, which is saying something. Dad was a died in the wool Magpie (as am/was I), so for him to say something positive about someone in a Manly jumper would suggest Mal was something special Hell of a Coach too it turned out!
NRL All Star Game: What an experience
Agree Jay, Taumata is an X Factor for sure, but considering he has played just 3 first grade games I think he has some dues to pay before he starts….I think he could form a potent combination with Benji
Lote becomes a Tiger and the fans rejoice
Scott, Rocky Trimarchi was cut at the end of last season by my records….
Lote becomes a Tiger and the fans rejoice
Mick, one report I read said something in the vicinity of $300K per year with 3rd party deals….not sure where that money is coming from…Maybe the Tigers have found themselves a salary sombrero rather than a cap???
Lote becomes a Tiger and the fans rejoice
Cheers Gary, it is quite impressive at first look, although the thing about the backline for mine is the depth. With Lui, Tamata,Mullaney,Lazarus etc waiting in the wings, competition for spots and the ability to cover injuries is better than ever. That being said,we are due for a good run with injuries, so hopefully that doesn’t become a factor
Lote becomes a Tiger and the fans rejoice
As a fan of Manny, albeit less so than I am of Floyd, I really hope this is all a misunderstanding and he agrees to the testing. The Mayweather comments were a savvy and carefully worded piece of propaganda, leaving Pacquiao’s camp no choice but to prove they are clean and comply with the testing requirements, or forever face questions of his integrity, to which the fact he may or may not actually use steriods or performance enhancers of any description will matter not. I was stunned to read it, I hope it is just a media beat up…will be a nasty and sudden end to the hype surrounding this fight!
Why Mayweather can't lose fight for the ages
Mate, I’d be happy to see him anywhere in the side, but word is he will ultimately play fullback. With Tuqiri, Tuiaki, Lawrence,Ayshford, Ryan, Marshall & Moltzen as a backline, playing behind an improved forward pack, good times ahead. I hope!
Lote might be the centre the Wallabies need
Hey, Mister…you might want to read the last paragraph of this article http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4766171 . He weighed in the night before the fight, which is the requirement, at 2lbs more at the specified weight, As I said. What fighter doesn’t weigh a lot more in the ring than they do at the weigh in??? While you’re at it…you might be interested in the rest of the story.Propanganda maybe, but it makes for interesting reading…
Why Mayweather can't lose fight for the ages
Thanks Lefty, exactly the informed insight I needed, and kinda what I wanted to hear. Also have to agree with the Human Headline description. If it is one thing I am wary of with the Wests Tigers showing so much interest, it’s the fact that he doesn’t seem to be far from the papers EVER. Having said that, from all reports across both codes, his team mates can never speak highly enough of the bloke. I’m happy to run with my Club taking the ‘risk’…Lord knows, we have had our share of ridiculous recruitment decisions at the Tigers, if this turns out to be one more, which my gut says won’t happen, I can live with it…
Lote might be the centre the Wallabies need
From the rumours and innuendo surrounding Lote’s sacking I, and I am sure plenty of better informed people than I, have heard, I can’t see JON taking him back into the fold. As a huge Wests Tigers fan, I hope the other rumours and innuendo about him basically being a sure thing to play there next season have more truth than any of the other talk surrounding Tuqiri. If I was a bigger Rugby fan than I am (despite throwing my support behind the Wallabies,my preference is for League), or worse still, a condidate for a centre spot in the Wallaby squad, I wouldn’t think this would be a great idea, or a good look for the code.
Having said that, he didn’t look horrible for Leicester against Clermont in the game they showed on FOX over the weekend, did he????
Lote might be the centre the Wallabies need
Oh Alan…you’re much smarter than to know I seriously picked the Chooks…I doubt even YOU would do that! haha
