Dockers tragic

I am from Kal …. and I currently live in Tassie, moved here 3 years back and am far from retiring, there are recent articles about the population growth in Tasmania being out of control. The state is predicted to grow it’s population by 30% across the next 2 decades.

Some people are way too wedded to the 1990’s and 1980’s versions of Tasmania being a place where you are from and not where you go to.

Similar question – how many 20 somethings are going … yeah Geelong tops, yeah Adelaide Tops ….

Martin and four others find new AFL homes in 2019 preseason and rookie drafts

Josh Green, ex Bris and Essendon has returned to Tassie, as one of many examples. Ex Fremantle Captain Adrian Fletcher coached in Tasmania in 2019

And as far as big name players not returning to their home state goes … where did Pavlich go after his career ended?

Some others off the top of my head – Craig Starcevich never returned to WA, nor Michael Christian, Brian Taylor. Even the Krakouers stayed in Victoria after their careers ended

It really is a poor argument. Players who go and make a home for themselves, possibly start a family in another state do find it hard to return back to their state of origin. I am sure Buddy won’t be moving back to Dowerin once he’s finished his career.

Mitchell Hibberd was re-drafted after sitting a year out, so that technically makes 2 Taswegians froma population of half a million.

Only 7 players were drafted from the NEAFL …. and technically only 6 from QLD / NSW as Rosas was from the NT, and yet they can have 4 clubs ~ average of under 2 players per club, and that from a population of 12.5m

And of those 6 they were all academy players, imagine of Tassie had an academy set up for them to develop and draft players.

So I wonder who out of Qld, NSW and Tassie truly deserves an AFL team

Sturt looks like he has spent a few months in the gym going by some of the trianing photos!

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

Henry has had the benefit of a few years of NGA academy, whereas Simpson went from school to AFL in one jump, plus he already had a young family

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

No, not ideal. There has to be something more to this, or else simply Freo must have believed that Carlton or the Dees would bid on Henry and this is the price they had to pay for 3 first rounders

I hope we do get back into the second round and nab Sharp or Taylor, both look quality players

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

Well Freo now have 7, 8, 49, 58, 69, 79 and 83 in the draft

Which means if a bid comes for Henry at 9 then 49, 58 and 69 are gone as are 681 points in 2020

Freo currently have a round 1 and 2 round 2’s in 2020 – we’ve traded away round 3 and 4 already. A deficit of 681 points means if we finished 9th (1469 points) then that goes down to pick 24, so in effect we then haev 3 second round picks

If I am Freo I am looking to trade the future second rounder and get back into the 2019 draft once the Liam Henry bid is through

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

ok, didn’t realise they could use the time to trade away picks.

They will still need to have someone lined up as I am sure they don’t want to only have pick 7 and Henry in the top 20

If pick 8 then maybe GCS for pick 15
If pick 9 then Geelong
If pick 10 then Port

And then a plan to get back into the top 20 afterwards, but obviously not with the same team as the AFL has poo pooed that thanks to Eagles and Sydney

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

I was thinking more so that the bid on Henry would come at 8 through 12, so Freo would use pick 15 to cover this

Once pick 15 was gone and the live pick is back to 9 through 13 then we trade 20 and 22 to the Cats for 14.

By my reckoning – if pick 8 is used then the points needed are 1240 (20% discount on pick 8 value). which would be pick 15 plus another 128 points. Which means, I think, pick 20 moves down to pick 24. So we’d need to trade 21 and 24 for 14 … still an option for the Cats

If Freo are confident they cna use pick 10 before the Henry bid then by all means keep it and get Stephens and Roberston plus Henry inside the top 20.

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

If Freo are worried that Liam Henry will go before pick 10 then they need to trade 10 to Gold Coast for 15 and 20.

Use pick 15 on the Henry bid then trade 20 and 22 for Geelongs pick 14 in order to get Robertson

if Henry has not been bid on by pick 12 swap 15 and 20 to Port for pick 12 and a future second round pick

Then move back into the second round with a future second round pick to get Sharp

Freo
OUT: 10, 22
IN: 14, 15 – Use 7 to get Stephens, 15 to get Henry, 14 to get Roberston

GCS:
OUT: 15,20
IN: 10 – Now have 3 top 10 picks

Geelong
OUT: 15
IN: 20, 22 – Cats then have 17, 20, 22, 24, 35 in side the first 2 rounds

Lots of permuations to ensure Freo still have 3 top 20 picks

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

Do we need Jackson?

As far as talls go Freo have Darcy, Tabs, Hamling, Lobb, Hogan, Meek, Pearce, Cox, Logue and O’reilly – all 193cm+

I’d be happy if Freo can get Stephens with pick 7, Robertson with pick 10, Henry with pick 22 and then trade back ito the early 20s with a future second rounder and some late picks in order to grab Sharp

Trade period and draft analysis: Fremantle Dockers

Do Adelaide or Melbourne do a pick swap with GWS so the Giants can get a top ten player plus Toby Greene?

If I am either of those teams its a no. They risk GWS picking the player at 3 or 4 that they were after. Unless they have an agreement on who GWS select with their pick.

Similar would Port doa pick swap with Freo so that Freo gives pick 10 and Port hand over pick 29 that Freo can use to match Liam Henry and once Liam Henry is secured then Port hand over pick 18 to Freo in return for a couple of picks in the 50s (one pick is the change left over from Freo using pick 22 and 29 on Liam Henry)

Difference in points between pick 10 and 18 is about 410 points

Port get pick 10 and two picks in the 50s (roughly 1,800 points)
Freo gets 18 + 29 (roughtly 1,650 points)

For Port this means they can move up and get Dylan Stephens and still have pick 13 for Will Gould.

For Freo it means they get a player at pick 7 (Luke Jackson), plus Liam Henry using two picks in the 20s and then a player at pick 18 (Deve Robertson, Trent Rivers, Jeremy Sharp or Elijah Taylor)

AFL Phantom Draft 2019: An early top 30

West Coast Eagles v Fremantle Tigers ????

Is this Freo’s new plan to win the premiership

AFL releases 2020 pre-season fixtures

You sure? He’s already 18

My understanding is Butters, Henry, Manfred Kelly and Leno Thomas are all eligible this year and next its Joel Western, the Walker Brothers and Hadrow (amongts maybe some others)

AFL Phantom Draft 2019: An early top 30

Lobb, Taberner, Pearce, Hamling, Darcy …. all talls this side of 27

Freo should get Roberston and Rivers and then Henry with the NGA academy pick

As well as Butters from the NGA later in the draft, or as a Cat B rookie if he slips through.

A good selection of WA talent is needed for Freo, and given WA won the state 18s there should be plenty to pick from

AFL Phantom Draft 2019: An early top 30

Pick 22 is being used for Liam Henry bid

He doesn’t have a bun, hasn’t for the entire year.

You rarely watch Freo don’t you

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Johno Brown and Lynch went alright, but a decent mid sticking it down their throat makes life easier.

You can’t win a game if the ball never gets into your forward line

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Freo, the dreadful team that they are, beat 3 of the 4 semi finalists.

Fyfe is the best player in the comp, he doesn’t get the benefit of Kelly and attract the number 3 or 4 defender / mid of the opp to run with him. Each week Fyfe beats the best in the comp and that’s what the umps see

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Surely you mean Hurn should have won … or NicNert

Nat Fyfe wins second Brownlow Medal

Yep, so AFLW is allowing no organic growth, just forcing the yawn of the AFL on amother supposed national comp

What Round 1 of the 2020 AFL Women's season should look like

Yawn, go and genuflect to your cuz idol

What Round 1 of the 2020 AFL Women's season should look like

Not sure why West Coast should be given a home game Western Derby as their introduction to the AFLW. Freo when they joined the AFL played at the MCG against Richmond in their first game, and in the AFLW they travelled to play at the Western Oval against the Doggies in their first match. West Coast also got to host the first Western Derby in 1995

If Optus is busy in round 1 then have the derby when it is not booked and let Freo have the hosting rights. Simple

West Coast don’t deserve a red carpet to be rolled out for them

Opening with Richmond v Carlton is a snub to the A in AFLW and just seeks to reinforce the mindset of an expanded VFL. The AFLW should embrace other teams, although they seem to be wedded to the Carlton v Collingwood match up to start the AFLW season

What Round 1 of the 2020 AFL Women's season should look like

Did I say that?

There’s big difference in making ambiguous statements on social media that can be read in a specific way as opposed to letting the professionals manage the information stream.

First thing that came from this was Peter Sumich saying the entire club needs to be investigated as the issue is unlikely to be a single person making a decision.

Maybe if someone from West Coast had grabbed Willie and said here’s what you say in public and here’s what you don’t then this type of scuttlebutt and inuendo could have been controlled minimising damage to the rest of the club and team

Now Willie has come out and said he’s guilty he cannot expect anything less than 4 years. If it had been managed then they could possibly have managed the extent of the punsihment a lot better.

Geez – I thought that would be basic a&%e covering 101 that somone like you anon would be all over
