Week 1 of the Gfinity Elite Series continues on Sunday morning, with the Rocket League tournament kicking off at 11am.

There were very clear contenders and very obvious pretenders that emerged over last season and, while the playoffs had some almighty upsets, it will be interesting to see whether that gap has closed over the offseason.

Melbourne Order will start as hot favourites over the Sydney Roar in the first match, with last season’s champions looking to start their title defence with a strong win.

The Roar looked out of their depth for most of season one, so they’ll need to get something special going if they’re to cause the upset here.

The match of the day is up next, with Perth Ground Zero tackling the Sydney Chiefs at 12pm.

The Chiefs know season one’s title was theirs for the taking. The all-conquering outfit hadn’t lost a match in forever before they inexplicably fell apart in the semi-finals – allowing Order to stroll through and claim the title.

They’ll have their eyes firmly on the prize – but Ground Zero fancy themselves as a top team too and will make sure Sydney don’t have it all their own way.

Closing out the day’s action will be the Brisbane Deceptors facing off against Melbourne Avant in an intriguing clash.

Both sides were pencilled in as strugglers last season and, while most of the season saw that sentiment ring true, an Avant upset for the ages in the semi-finals over the Chiefs catapulted their status to contenders.

Will they fall back to earth against the lowly Deceptors here?

There are plenty of questions that need answering, join us from 11am to see the second Rocket League season get underway.
