Week 2 of the Gfinity Elite Series kicks off at the Hoyts Gfinity Esports Arena today, with six teams duking it out from 3pm (AEDT) in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

We thought we’d get a good idea as to who the contenders and pretenders were last week, but a crazy week one just left us scratching our heads.

The first two games of the day went by lightning quick, with Melbourne Order starting off their title defence with a devastating 16-3 demolition of the Sydney Roar, before Perth Ground Zero surprised everyone by dispatching of the Sydney Chiefs 16-2.

Brisbane Deceptors showed off some greatly improved form in the last match of the day, but Melbourne Avant were still able to come away with the 16-13 win.

This week, we’ll find out whether some of those demolitions were aberrations, or whether we already have our Season 2 grand finalists.

The first match of the day is arguably the most intriguing, with Avant taking on the Chiefs. It was very hard to get a read on either team with last week’s results.

An Avant win here means they’re on track for a semi-finals spot – while it would spell disaster for the Chiefs. The other way around? Well, we’d still be in the dark.

The second match could get very ugly if last week was anything to go by. Ground Zero look like a whole new team compared to last season and, coming up against a significantly weaker Roar team, a 16-0 whitewash is not out of the question.

Lastly, it’ll be Brisbane trying to hold their own against the defending champions Order. If the Deceptors can take anywhere between eight and 12 maps off their opponents here, they really will be on the up.

Will we get a better picture of who’s the real deal today? Join us from 3pm to find out.
