The Everest has certainly made the waves a race worth $13 million should. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:15pm (AEDT).
While much of the action taking place at Caulfield throughout the day has potentially more impact and importance to the future of Australian racing and the Spring Carnival itself, Royal Randwick has the glitz and glamour of the Everest.
$6 million waits the winner of the second edition of this new weight for age sprint, with a unique vision that has built an astronomical level of excitement in punters and fans of racing in general.
Redzel returns as the defending and inaugural champion yet it is tough to see a repeat with form suggesting he isn’t quite going as well.
Santa Ana Lane, Trapeze Artist and Vega Magic all come into the race with good form and Anthony Freedman’s Shoals looks to be one of the main dangers.
American runner US Navy Flag has Ryan Moore aboard and will run with plenty of money hoping for a stars and stripes victory, while my roughie for the race is Graff.
The Kris Lees runner has drawn in the centre of the field, carries nothing as a three year old colt, yet will need a little luck as the race settles.
Brave Smash returns for another crack at the Everest after a third place finish last year and with Hugh Bowman on board, could be another with an outside hope.
Prediction
This is a tough race to line up, with early speed crucial. Shoals looks a real chance from a great barrier and the early speed of Vega Magic and Trapeze Artist might set them up well on the heels of Redzel, if the reigning champ jumps with his normal speed.
