Match preview:

The Cairns Taipans will host the Sydney Kings during their Round 2 NBL match-up. Be sure to join us at The Roar 7:30pm (AEDT) for live scores from the match and a blog of the game.

Top-of-the-table Sydney will travel north to face a Cairns Taipans team looking to extend their win streak to three. This weekend will be a home-and-away double for these two teams, who will then match-up just two days later in Sydney.

Sydney are in the midst of one of their best season starts in club history currently sitting on top with five wins and just the one loss a Round 1 loss to the Brisbane Bullets. Cairns have started to find form after a losing their first three games of the season.

Cairns had a great Round 4 getting wins over Melbourne United and the Illawara Hawks to stop their three-game losing streak, they now have to face the other red hot team in Sydney but after last week’s results they will be fired up to take a big scalp.

Sydney topped the Brisbane Bullets in their one and only game last week, after a strong debut from new import Steve Blake who had 12 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals in his 36 minutes of game time.

The Taipans had the biggest win of any road-winning team this season beating the Hawks by 15, and had six players finish in double digits in what was an all-round display from the team.

The match-up to watch will be Kevin Lisch and Travis Trice, both are likely to play despite a slight injury cloud, Lisch is a fantastic talent who manages to make everyone around him better and will work on both ends of the floor. Trice had a big game against Melbourne last week and will need to be stopped by Sydney for them to be able to overcome this Taipans squad.

The Kings beat the Taipans in their home opener this season after a big fourth from Jason Cadee, the Taipans took a one-point lead into the fourth in that game only for Cadee to take control and lead the Kings to a 14 point win,

The game should be closer than the last time these two teams met and with both nearing full strength squads it should be a great contest. Cairns will look to have a much improved fourth quarter compared to the last time these teams met and Sydney will have their hands full trying to control Nate Jawai who is coming off probably his best performance of the year.

The Kings look to be a lot better on paper and with Kevin Lisch looking to be back they will be tough to beat, however the home crowd environment in Cairns is always difficult for teams to play in.

Prediction
In what could be the game of the round I give the edge to the Kings.
