Spring Carnival's Guineas Day has us raring for more

It’s that time of year again: the footy’s over, cricket’s just warming up and all you can smell is roses and horse droppings. The Spring Racing Carnival is on.

And what a carnival we have to look forward to based on the results coming out of Caulfield Guineas day on Saturday: all three group ones produced champion winners.

So You Think is looking like the horse of the spring carnival in 2010. Bart Cumming’s horse won in a near canter in the Yalumba Stakes solidifying her favouritism for the Cox Plate. Alcopop and Whobegotyou both returning from spells, also looked promising but were never in So You Think’s class.

In the Toorak Handicap, Gai Waterhouse hit back with her horse More Joyous blitzing the field. This horse looks like So You Think’s biggest threat of the spring. Nash Rawiller rode the mare brilliantly and she flew the flag for NSW horses.

Already a group one winner this year, More Joyous has won her last six races and this imposing record will keep Bart thinking about their clash in the Cox Plate.

The feature race also provided a winner to look out for in the future. By name and by nature, Anacheeva achieved its aim of winning the G1 Caulfield Guineas.

Having Luke Nolen as the jockey also was bonus; he has in the last 12 months improved his skills to be one of the best jockey’s currently in Australia. The question is for Anacheeva is where does she go from here? The Victoria Derby could be an option but a run in the Mackinnon Stakes wouldn’t be a bad proposition.

So as the Carnival gets serious, the Caulfield Guineas day leaves us with a few questions to be answered.

Will More Joyous challenge So You Think? Can Alcopop regain its best form for another carnival raid? Where to now for Toorak Toff? And, does So You Thinks’ raid on the carnival include a trip to Flemington on the first Tuesday in November?

So many questions and so much racing to look forward to, sit back and enjoy it.
