It’s that time of year when the racing industry heads to Surfers to enjoy the sales, sandy white beaches and surf, oh yes, and the races – The Magic Millions carnival on the Gold Coast.
From race four, the Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) at 3.05pm (local) through to race seven, the Magic Millions Cup (1400m), we’ll bring you previews, analysis and results, as well as comments from the key players.
While the focus has been on the auction ring rather than the racetrack in the past few days, the spotlight is well and truly on the Gold Coast Turf Club’s biggest day of the year.
In the $2 million Magic Millions two-year old Classic, Gai has the favourite in Driefontein with Tommy Berry aboard. The unbeaten Fastnet Rock filly lines-up against a crack field of speedsters including the well-fancied Sizzling and Amorino, also undefeated, who will be guided by the Pumper, Jim Cassidy, who is gunning for his third Classic win.
The two heavily-backed runners last met in the group three BJ McLachlan at Doomben. Chris Munce, riding Sizzling, is confident of turning the tables today.
The day also features the $1 millions Magic Millions three-year old Guineas over 1400m with a quality support cast including the $176,000 MM Sprint (1000m), the $328,000 MM Cup (1400m) and the $170,000 MM Stayers Cup (1800m) with the get out stakes a $164,000 F&M handicap over 1300m.
