I had just watched Black Caviar chalk up her 23rd consecutive win last weekend, in the race named after her.

Her win in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes got me thinking about where she stands in relation to other great horses in recent times.

My thoughts then turned who were the greatest racehorses I’ve seen since 1975.

1975 was the year of my birth, along with being the first year of colour television in Australia.

It was also a good year for one of Australia’s more successful horses, with Think Big taking out a second successive Melbourne Cup victory.

While Black Caviar would make into the no.1 spot with a bullet, the question was, who would fill spots 2-10?

Would it be Makybe Diva, because of her three Melbourne Cups in a row?

Could it be the mighty Bonecrusher from New Zealand, who’s race with fellow New Zealander Our Waverley Star in the 1986 Cox Plate remains the greatest race ever seen according to many racing fans?

Some even called it ‘the race of the century’.

Or could it be a runner from the golden era in the 1990s, where we had horses like Better Loosen Up, Saintly, Super Impose, Might and Power, Fields of Omagh and many more?

I managed to come up with a list. Here is my selection of the 10 greatest racehorses since 1975.

1. Black Caviar
2. Makybe Diva
3. Kingston Town
4. Super Impose
5. Bonecrusher
6. Might and Power
7. Better Loosen Up
8. Sunline
9. Saintly
10. Think Big

Who would make your list of the 10 greatest racehorses since 1975?
