Once again Le Tour de France entered the beautiful town of Gap and once again Froome was forced to defend his maillot jaune.

But it was the Portuguese rider in Rui Costa who took the spoils on today’s stage.

Originally part of a 23-man breakaway, Costa took his chance on the Col de Manse after the duo of Biel Kadri and Jean Marino were caught by Adam Hansen.

More than 11 minutes behind the peloton were gearing up for a fight for the General Classification.

Alberto Contador attacked Froome numerous times on the climb, only to be caught by either Froome or Australian Team Sky rider Richie Porte.

Up ahead Costa was setting a high pace, with the duo of Christophe Riblon and Arnold Jeannesson unable to chase him down.

Young Nairo Quintana stayed with Froome’s group, allowing him to climb into the top five at the expense of Laurens Ten Dam.

After two weeks’ worth of racing Froome currently holds the yellow jersey with Bauke Mollema and Alberto Contador second and third respectively. Roman Kreuziger and Quintana round out the top five.

On Wednesday we have the Individual Time Trial from Embrug to Chorges.

Whilst not containing any difficult climbs, the up and down nature of the terrain will mean it is not a traditional time trial route.

Unlike the time trial last week which saw Tony Martin take the stage victory, I’d be firming towards Chris Froome taking the win and most likely securing the maillot-jaune for the remainder of the race.
