West Coast have traded midfielder Matt Rosa to the Gold Coast Suns, with the Suns giving back pick 31 in exchange.
Rosa indicated last week after the Eagles secured Jack Redden and Lewis Jetta that he would explore his opportunities this trade period.
The Suns appeared as a suitor, and have now given up the pick 31 that they received from Richmond yesterday as part of the Charlie Dixon trade to secure Rosa.
The Eagles initially refused to look at a trade for Rosa but for one reason or another have changed their minds and allowed him to leave.
They now take picks 31, 36 and 37 into the draft, after giving up their first round selection as part of the deal for Redden.
Rosa will add some maturity and experience to the Gold Coast line-up.
“We are rapt that Matt will join our club, he brings valuable experience to our midfield and his leadership qualities will assist our large group of emerging leaders.
“The club had been in discussions with Matt, his manager Alex McDonald and the West Coast Eagles throughout the exchange period and this has led to the smooth and trouble free trade being agreed upon,” said Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft.
Rosa said he was excited to make the move from one coast to another.
“I’m rapt to be joining the Gold Coast Suns. After meeting with the club last week, I was really keen to continue my career with the Suns.
“I really want to thank and acknowledge everyone at the West Coast Eagles, I’ve loved my time with the Eagles and wish the club all the best in 2016 and beyond,” Rosa said.
The Suns still have a strong hand to play in this year’s draft, with picks 6, 16, 29 and 35 all in the first two rounds of the draft following a trade with Melbourne earlier today.
Welcome to the Gold Coast SUNS, Matt Rosa
