You would think last week having tipped four upsets that by sheer dumb luck I would get at least one of them right – unfortunately, Round 6 was the round where teams who were favourites decided to win for a change.

Without a bevy of bizarre results to sustain our interest, the footy media world has collectively turned towards criticising the look of the game instead. It may not be perfect, but it certain still looks better than my tipping total.

I’ll be tipping Geelong on Friday night. It feels like tempting lightning to strike twice given what happened last week, but come on, Zeus, smite me. You know you wanna.

The Bulldogs in Ballarat should be too good for an undermanned Suns side, and Hawthorn look set to send Essendon to a demoralising 2-5 record.

West Coast vs Port Adelaide promises to be a good one. The Eagles have been the better team so far this year and also have the home ground advantage, so I’ll back them.

A more experienced Sydney side shouldn’t be too troubled by North on Saturday night, and while Adelaide vs Carlton will have the spectacle of Bryce Gibbs against his old club, you probably won’t miss much if you take a nap during. Crows by plenty.

Will Richmond lose another game at the MCG this year? Although they’ve done it before, I don’t think Fremantle is going to be the team to upset them there.

Melbourne over St Kilda and Collingwood over Brisbane look like slam dunks on exposed form.

In a lock of the week, I’ll have to go Adelaide for a big win at home against the Blues. An already uncompetitive Carlton side isn’t going to be helped by the travel factor.

The Dogs should beat a Suns side sans Tom Lynch and Steven May in what shapes as one of the suckiest games that ever sucked.

I don’t think Essendon are much good, but for some reason I think they’ll upset the Hawks. I don’t want to talk about this anymore.

West Coast versus Port might be the game of the round. If Paddy Ryder plays, I think Port will win, but as of right now I’m taking the Eagles.

Sydney should be too strong for North at home and the Crows won’t have any trouble handing the Blues their seventh loss of the season.

Richmond won’t have it all their own way, but I expect them to run over the Dockers like they do everyone else at the MCG. Here’s hoping we see a bit of Dusty and Fyfe going head-to-head.

The Saints are no good, Melbourne are. Melbourne will win.

The Pies should get the job done at the Gabba if they’re legit, but this is a huge danger game against the Lions, who are going to win one sooner rather than later.

This round appears to be as much about survival of the fittest than anything else, with a spate of injuries across the competition.

GWS will be missing too many players to beat a hungry Geelong stung from losing at home to Sydney. The Bulldogs have no excuses against a Gold Coast missing co-captains Tom Lynch and Steven May. Hawthorn should cut Essendon to ribbons on the outside based on exposed form.

West Coast hosting Port has match-of-the-round status, especially when we think back to that nail-biting extra-time elimination final from last year. The Eagles look more trustworthy than the Power through the first six rounds of the season, and it’s fair enough to side with them at home.

Saturday nights games aren’t likely to draw too many neutral viewers, with Sydney and Adelaide expected to win comfortably against North and Carlton respectively.

On Sunday, the Tiger train should roll on with a win against a travelling Fremantle, but it is worth noting the Dockers have beaten Richmond in their last three MCG encounters, the last two of which have been on the last kick of the day.

St Kilda are too hopeless to consider for victory against a Melbourne side that has hit a nice part of their draw to build confidence and bank wins.

Collingwood should beat Brisbane at the Gabba, but shouldn’t take them too lightly.

Neither Geelong nor the Giants have been entirely convincing, but I’ll back the Cats at home.

Gold Coast haven’t been home in ages and are surely fed up with the travel by now. Bulldogs to win.

Port don’t seem to mind the trip out west and some say it’s hard to back up after the Derby, but given how impressive the Eagles have been I can’t tip against them.

Melbourne are back on the winners list, but questions still remain. They should, however, have too much firepower for St Kilda.

I’d always like to give the Lions a chance at the Gabba, even against a form team like the Pies. But their scoring woes seem to indicate a lot of underlying problems and Collingwood look much more balanced and potent.

Elsewhere, Hawthorn to bounce back against the Bombers, Sydney to make short work of North, Adelaide to cruise past the Blues and Richmond to win yet another game at the MCG over the Dockers.
