Two meetings to look at on Friday, with my attention at Albion Park and Ballarat.

The best bets for the respective programs are down below.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race Five Number 10 No Doubt
He is bursting to win a race and he gets his chance here. He has been plagued by bad gates in recent runs and that is the case yet again, but there looks to be good speed so I can see him sitting back off it, getting a drag into the race and proving very strong late. He’s the one to beat.

Next-best: Race Ten Number 3 My Ultimate Baxter
Two-year-old that is taking on the older horses, but there has been plenty to like about the way he has gone about his business in his short career to date. He has won four of his five career outings and has looked quite impressive. He should find the front and if the 2138m is no issue, he’s clearly the one to beat.

Value: Race Four Number 1 Kalani
He rises a bit in grade and depth but is lightly-raced and progressive. He didn’t beat the strongest field at Redcliffe last time, but he was pretty good in getting the win and what will help him here is the pole draw, where he can hold a forward spot, likely behind the leader. Each-way for sure.

Ballarat

Best bet: Race Four Number 8 Kyvalley Surfrider
The draw does make things a bit tricky for him, but he is clearly the best horse in the race and does get Chris Alford steering so he has a bit in his corner to offset the awkward gate. He’s going really well at the moment, his latest run came second at Shepparton. He’s bursting to win another race and if he gets clear air, that win comes here.

Next-best: Race Three Number 6 Lady Olivias Folly
It does look a race in two, but with the hard race experience and fitness on her side, I’m with this mare. She led and opted for cover at Shepparton last time out and stuck to the task really well when second. I expect Greg Sugars will be aggressive from the gate, find the front and look to dominate proceedings.

Value: Race Five Number 1 Chief Safari
I’m happy to speck 1×3 at odds. He was big odds as a surprise winner here last time out, getting a suck run on the pegs and the splits came his way to get the win. He lands in the box seat sit behind the odds on pop and if he reproduces something similar to last time, he’ll be around the mark.
