Two meetings to look at on Thursday, with my focus at Maryborough and Redcliffe. Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 3, Number 8, Spot On
Very rare that a former Kiwi runs poorly at their Australian debut so I’ll bank on that trend continuing via this gelding, who now finds himself with Julie Douglas. He brings with him some pretty strong NZ form and despite drawing inside the second row, I think the class edge will be telling late.

Next-best: Race 7, Number 2, Ultimate Vinnie
Speaking of class, Ultimate Vinnie has it and he should be winning here. Hasn’t raced since the Vic Bred Super Series where he was far from disgraced behind some elite horse flesh of his own age at three. Now four, resumes in a much weaker race, he clearly looks the one to beat.

Value: Race 11, Number 1, Sandoval
I think he’s worth a small 1×3 ticket at big odds in the get out. Showed good gate speed to get leaders back at Cobram last time out and battled on okay to finish fourth. Drawn the pole again, he should get leaders back once again and if the tempo is moderate, he can run a cheeky race at a big price.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 4, Number 1, Mollidor
Just points to this mare breaking through for her first Queensland win. Had to do a bit of work early last time but eventually landed 1/1. Hailed as the winner when given clear air but was nabbed near the line. From the pole, I think she’ll lead and take a power of beating.

Next-best: Race 9, Number 3, Speed Of Sound
I think she is the bet in the get out. Lot of merit in her win here last start. Had to sit in the breeze for most of the race. Was entitled to drop away but she kept finding and on the line, she was strongest in an impressive run. Draws much better this time, she’s a great bet in the last.

Value: Race 1, Number 2, Cruisen On Bye
On paper, it looks a race in two, but if the two favourites decide to declare each other on, this mare will get a look via the sprint lane and blouse them. NSW visitor who hasn’t set the world on fire in recent times, but her form lines read strong for a race like this and with leaders back, I think she’ll run a positive race at odds.
