Racing is trying to win the wrong argument. This is what needs to change
In a recent presentation to a racing audience Gerard Whateley made the distinction between racing as a sport and racing as an industry. He…

Opinion
After the beast that was Slipper Day, we’re back at Rosehill this Saturday for two more Group 1s (remember when they were on Slipper Day too – that was awesome, although I get it), which include a few races over a trip as we head QE, Cup and Oaks-wards in the next few weeks.
Rain? Of course there is! While I would be taking Verry Elleegant odds about a correct weather report, a heavy deck seems likely and it might be worth seeing how the track plays early, making ground could be tricky.
Best bet: Race 10 – 8 Taksu (2 units @ $3)
On a tricky day, Taksu looks to get all the favours here and is in career-best form. The inside draw and Schiller’s claim is perfect and the wetter the better. The short way home to end the day.
Best value: Race 9 – 2 Splintex (1 unit @ $12)
On a day where I’m having a few throws at the stumps, I reckon Splintex is a good play late in the card. He’s the horse in the race with the A-1 form, he’ll be better for his run behind Eduardo (and Shelby) fresh and has Nature Strip, Kementari and Private Eye form from Spring. Fine in heavy going, loves Rosehill, drawn nicely.
Sydney racing selections (no bets races 1 and 2)
Race 3 – 13 Polly Grey (1 unit @ $5)
Race 4 – 2 White Noise (1 unit @ $13)
Race 5 – 5 Expat (1 unit @ $7.50)
Race 6 – 9 The Frontman (1 unit @ $27)
Race 7 – 2 Spanish Mission (2 units @ $4.20)
Race 8 – 12 Pink Ivory (1 unit @ $16)
Race 9 – 2 Splintex (1 unit @ $12)
Race 10 – 8 Taksu (2 units @ $3)
Some interesting specs above.
The Frontman has come across the ditch to Team Waller, has heavy track form and was recently gelded. At 25/1, I’m happy to have a look.
Pink Ivory is Sarge’s Oaks horse. She may need one more but she bolted in at Newcastle and could be the best of the crop. Expat and Spanish Mission may just be hard to get past if there’s any leader bias.
Enjoy the racing, a really good day of racing ahead, good luck and stay safe.
