The problem is that the Commonwealth games are and will always be the minor league of world sports, USA, China and Russia aren’t in so there is most of the decent competition gone. Plus this countries dwindling interest in being apart of the Commonwealth does not help. If Turnbull has his way we would become a Republic tomorrow. But the biggest factor is as stated in the article is that the athletes aren’t as good as they were use to be. The Campbell or should I say choker sisters are the perfect example. In Beijing we did well but in London we were embarrassed out of the olympics as the athletes we too busy on Facebook with their stupid Shelfies instead of focusing on the task at hand. Rio was even worse with poor medal hall in decades. In short no one wants to watch a second tier team lose . It’s like watching the Central Queensland Capras play in the Instrust Super Cup no one cares

The fight would generate more money in the uk could sellout Wembley again with 90000 plus. Usa stadiums would be hard press to find 60000 plus to rock up to a fight there. Msg and T-Mobile only hold 20000 so it might better for the fight to be I the uk. Or better yet bring it here at the mcg and get 100000 plus

Hi Mary, as always great article. I think that Peter Sterling on the Sunday Footy show yesterday along with your article sums up what has happened to the Cowboys, perfectly. Due to the World Cup commitments of many or in fact all of the star players of the Cowboys, the Cowboys players are wore out. JT 13, Morgan, and others are struggling to get through the matches, I feel that same is happening at the Storm. They virtually had zero time to have some R&R before the pre season and played the tribute match in Feburary, which at this stage is looking as their game of the year. Thurston is out on his feet with his aging and broken body starting to get the best of him (trust me I know what that’s like I just had surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle myself back in December). Thurston needs to retire TODAY!!! not at the end of the year as the Cowboys have more then proven that they can win without him, hence last year’s finals performance.
Saturday’s game was not a poor performance by the Cowboys, it was a tried performance by a team that has had no time to recovery form the 2017 season and World Cup. Hence why the Dragons are doing so well, how many World cup players to they have in their side? 3 maybe? How many stars returning from injury? None I think. Hence why teams like the Dragons, Tigers, and Warriors are doing so well (maybe the warriors finally decided to pull their finger out as NZ WC campaign was a disaster). Even at Thurston’s 300 against the Sharks, he looked tried at wore out five minutes into the game. He cant take the hits like he used to plus his fitness is way down, so needs to go give away now as thing are not going to improve.
IMHO its simple for the Cowboys, they are buggered !!!
