Footy tragic. Dockers diehard. No claim to expertise - just gut-feeling and passion.

Logged in to see Kelly’s mug again *blergh*
This is really only the second year I’ve paid this kind of close attention to trade period and I’m finding it quite dull. Seems it could easily be shorter.
All your trade period action (or lack thereof) so far
If by ‘best’ you mean most irritating, then yes.
Was doing grocery shopping yesterday when the trade news came through over the store radio. Accidentally let out the f-bomb. An old bloke’s head shot up. He took one look at my Freo shirt, laughed and walked off.
Irritating.
Who'll end up really winning the Tim Kelly trade?
*blergh* I’m sick of seeing this bloke’s mug every time I log in.
Who'll end up really winning the Tim Kelly trade?
Coolio, thanks for the answers and insights 👍
AFL Trade News: Tim Kelly, Joe Daniher, Jamie Elliott, Ben King and more
I don’t follow WAFL so I have no idea, but while he was ‘under Freo’s nose’ (as I’ve heard many times) was his performance exceptional? Also, were Freo or WC people screaming for his selection? Or is it since he’s been at Geelong that his full talent has been on display?
AFL Trade News: Tim Kelly, Joe Daniher, Jamie Elliott, Ben King and more
Ah I see, fair points. But if he goes into the pre-season draft, there’s still the risk of being drafted anywhere, yeah?
I’m expecting WC and Geelong will do a deal, but just wondering about possible scenarios.
If a trade doesn’t happen for BHilly, he has to stay at Freo. Could he also do a McCarthy and sit out a season and move to Melbourne anyway? I’m hoping he wouldn’t actually do that, but is it an option?
AFL Trade News: Tim Kelly, Joe Daniher, Jamie Elliott, Ben King and more
Yeah, I’m sure I’ve read direct quotes from his manager that Kelly believes WC has the more supportive family environment.
But it can’t just be that, right? Is it because he believes WC is closer to a flag? Or is it something more nefarious about Freo?
Anyway, I really don’t know how the trades work, so… who ultimately decides where Kelly goes? If Geelong doesn’t accept WC’s offer, Kelly doesn’t accept Geelong’s offer, and then chooses not to deal with Freo, does he go back into the draft or something?

JB, he has the qualifications but not enough time spent earning those qualifications to truly be considered experienced enough for the CEO position.
He can put GMoF on his CV, but one year in the role does not equate to ‘experience’ in football adminstration imo, or certainly not enough to make him competitive if he had applied.
He needs a few more years in his current position at the very least.
Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach
Oh gawd, you heard! Gosh, thank you DF. It was all very odd. I’m just relieved to have some ego still intact, and I’m buzzing for next season already.
Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach
As I’ve said before, the science geeks would know better than me, but I propose that moving the ball across the field through effort is more taxing on the body than moving the ball through skill. (And I believe Lyon is all about effort and structure to the detriment of skill so maybe there’s a link…)
Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach
Ahhh I’m relieved to hear there are other names being bandied around. I need to catch up on the CEO discussions.
Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach
Let’s face it, for Freo and Eagles supporters, or any other neutrals, it wasn’t much of a GF to watch so we had to occupy ourselves some other way.
Fremantle appoint Justin Longmuir as next senior coach
I’m genuinely excited about this. I’d have more to add except that I’m still recovering from a big GF weekend.
On a side note, it seems absurd to me that Bell could be front runner for CEO. Promotion through sentimentality rather than suitability.

You might see that injuries decrease due to a new style of play rather than a change of medical team.

I’m late to this read but thanks for supporting the statue. My main thought for many of the media critics was simply that they weren’t the intended audience so they were never going to get it.
When you see the photos of all the young girls rallying around Tayla and the statue, you get a better sense of what it’s all about it and what value it has.
The Tayla Harris statue transcends sport
*Justin that is. My correction didn’t go through. Just a slip of the tongue.
Don Pyke quits Adelaide Crows
Oooh, a thread with 13th, DF and JB. We’ve almost got the team back together!
I’d rather new, non-Victorian, Fremantle roots, so John Longmuir fits the bill for me.
I’d previously dismissed Sumich based on commentary on here, but I do wonder whether he could pull a Fagan. Just needs an opportunity to be the bride rather than the bridesmaid.
– JLo coach, PS assistant
– JLo coach, AFL-experienced coach as assistant (could possibly get away with a Hird appointment in this role)

DF has disagreed with me on this point before, and I guess it really needs the insight of a sports scientist, but I have seriously begun to wonder whether it’s Lyon’s preferred play style that increases the likelihood of injury. Is effort over skill more physically taxing? Does it lead to more battered and bruised players?
As for Fyfe, I think the players jumped the gun on him. He needed another year or two to mature. I have a bugbear with people being promoted into positions where they’re afforded the opportunity to develop skills and qualities they should already have had. Now, before you lump me in with the Freo fans who are actually non-Freo fans, he has proven me wrong at times. Also, I am an absolute Sonny fanatic and I would simply have loved to have seen him in this role.
Talk of trading Fyfe though… utter, utter, utter rubbish 👎
Ross Lyon's Fremantle were headed in the right direction
Does anyone know why there wasn’t a chance that he’d be re-signed after next season regardless of how we performed? Or is that conjecture?
Ross Lyon's Fremantle were headed in the right direction
What do you mean by “footy history”? They have to have played competitively?
I don’t know a great deal about Colleen Hayward, but I heard her speak after The Final Quarter premiere and she was brilliant. She hasn’t played but obviously her family has footy history. She gets my vote to stay.
I’ve always had reservations about Bell. Promotion through sentiment rather than suitability. I support him in his current role, but I don’t think he’s qualified for CEO.
