It’s not the NRL that prevents a national draft. It was defeated in court back in the 1990’s by Terry Hill. The players’ association would have to come to the party
Paradox of parity: NRL craves a level playing field but fans love to hate a dynasty like Penrith’s undisputed reign
I’d say there might be a higher correlation between travel and injuries, although if that were 100% true the Cowboys and Warriors would be regularly decimated
NRL Round 8 Team Lists Late Mail: Injury causes Dragons reshuffle, Cleary back, Broncos' mixed news, Eels blood new half
Their only problem is a keeper. I could only think of Michael Dimatina
What’s in a name? The all-time great Steve XI
Tigers always seem to draw an audience.
It’s the same across the competition. The Broncos always have to play the other QLD teams plus the Storm twice, no matter whether that is an easy or hard draw in any particular year.
Five and a kick: Benji's Tigers lost to Penrith, but did they actually win in the long run?
Cronulla get an ‘easy’ draw because they are t a marquee side. So the big guns play each other twice to take in the ratings and Cronulla find themselves facing up to the Titans and the Raiders
Five and a kick: Benji's Tigers lost to Penrith, but did they actually win in the long run?
No praise for team in third place? Just for the coach? This is team expected to struggle in general, with 7 first team players out, five of whom are rep players
NRL Round 7 Talking Points: With big wins come big losses, and which coach is the game’s biggest sook?
Statement win by the Dolphins. They are showing that depth is building and that a second season and more games into the likes of Bostock, Katoa and Plath is helping them to not go to pieces when injuries occur.
Still a mid table team but if they keep beating who they should beat, then the odd loss to the real contenders shouldn’t hurt too much.
And I’m glad they got the Dragons early in the season. Flanagan is having a massive effect down at Wollongong.
Still a Broncos Panthers year again unless injuries upset the status quo. Both winning well without their half and leader.
NRL Power Rankings: Round 7 - Dolphins, Dragons finals bound? Knights a non-event, Parra on the precipice
And your evidence that he was lying?
Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys
I just asked a clarifying question actually 😁
'How does it not get sin-binned?' Benji fumes at ref's soft call as Cleary insists Edwards not hurt
Do you think the ankle tap on Olam should have been a sin bin? Do you think it had a material effect on the match?
'How does it not get sin-binned?' Benji fumes at ref's soft call as Cleary insists Edwards not hurt
I suspect that was why the Dolphins made a late change to leave Wallace out in favour of the more mobile Keeley.
'We gave up': Under pressure Arthur rages at 'part-time footy team' Parra as undermanned Dolphins run riot
I thought I saw it but it was a Dad giving their two year old daughter a piggy back
The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight
I second you on Cam Murray. He should be lock and captain
'Attitude and loyalty surpass strength and speed': The Blues need to 'out-Queensland' the Maroons to have Origin success
It was refreshing to see an angry coach in a press conference giving it to his team and not the refs
'We gave up': Under pressure Arthur rages at 'part-time footy team' Parra as undermanned Dolphins run riot
Complete performance in the second half by the Phins, which built on a resolute effort in the first have when they were struggling.
The little men blew Parramatta away, JMK and Katoa orchestrated the show. But the go forward was built on Nicholls, Kerr and Keeley. Bostock is growing every week (literally- he was a skinny kid last year). Max Plath is a beauty.
And there is Trai Fuller. A pure footy player, mature, safe, tough and dynamic. I can only imagine his height has been the thing stopping a club from installing him as fullback. Ironic that we were playing Parra because he reminds me a little of Brett Hodgson.
Loved Arthur’s comment when asked if fatigue was a factor, something like “they spent plenty of time standing behind their tryline” 😂 😂
'We gave up': Under pressure Arthur rages at 'part-time footy team' Parra as undermanned Dolphins run riot
Parramatta only have themselves to blame. It’s their home game

And his kicking game has come on in leaps and bounds this year

With hammer out the only other option is to bring Gagai back and I think that ship has sailed
Injury-hit Maroons won’t panic over Origin selections but just sit back and laugh at Blues’ hullabaloo
That looks about right to me

For a second I thought Scott Minto had come out of retirement
NRL Round 7 Team Lists Late Mail: Des forced into spine reshuffle, Panthers and Dragons announce debutants
I guess you could have Bevan as keeper. I couldn’t put him in ahead of any of the batsmen.
Matt, Mat or Matthew... The Best XI that shares the popular great name to play top-level cricket
To me it is the usual game of whack-a-mole the NRL has to play with the coaches. Defenders get better at jumping for the ball? Then coach players to come in under them and knock them sideways so they drop the ball more. That gets outlawed? then get players to sprint in before the contest and do everything they can to distract the catcher (see Reece Walsh in the dolphins game, as obvious as anything and not penalised). It’s a better % play than actually competing for the ball because the attacking side won’t risk knocking it on, only the poor defender trying to catch a ball after an opposing player has literally flown past their nose.
NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?
Same thing in the Broncos vs Dolphins game, but the Dolphins got a bit of a square up with the penalties going the other way.

I thought Geoff Toovey was the original master of the flap.
