I don’t think youth can be blamed by any means. In fact the young players out there, (Oar, Kruse, Holland, etc.) probably performed the best out of everyone. I think that Holger is simply looking to point the finger. He is a fantastic coach who is having to deal with a team going through a transitional period a year out from a world cup. He is a great coach but the World Cup (if we make it) will surely be a test for him.
Rating Australia's dismal performance against Oman
This has nothing on Clint Malarchuk. He got his neck sliced open during an ice hockey game, making his jugular vein spurt a large quantity of blood from his neck in a second. Its worth watching but is by no means for the feint hearted. People watching the game were severely affected. 11 fans feinted, 2 had heart attack and three players on the field vomited. Truly gruesome injuries.
VIDEO: Is Kevin Ware's broken leg the most gruesome sports injury ever?
I think Holland was simply playing the game he was told to in a formation that simply didn’t work for him. He was the passing man and made many successful plays but when his teammates were standing so far away with so many players between, it made it difficult.

Buffon will not be replaceable. He is a legend. Even at such an age as he is now he saves Italy time and time again. I think Mattia Perin or Nicola Leali are the most likely to replace him. And I do find it quite funny that Milan and Juventus were the only teams represented in the starting lineup against Malta. Most other teams rely too heavily on international players.
Rising Italy could be unbeatable in years to come
As a Milan fan, I’m hoping he doesn’t stay at PSG too long!

In all fairness a Tuesday night game played inside ANZ Stadium, whilst the Sydney Royal Easter Show is on, away supporters making up 200 of the attendees. I think that due to all the factors involved, 35,000 against a team ranked 105th is extremely encouraging rather than poor. I think the only thing that let Australia down was their pace. They were far too slow and this allowed Oman to exploit them.
Socceroos v Oman: The good, the bad, the ugly and the summary
I think having a national premier league will put more pressure on teams to perform well and allow clubs that may not have enough funding to have a team in the A-League to be competitive within their own league and gain fans. I think Melbourne Heart are simply playing in the wrong city. They have to share a city with the best supported team in the A-League. Their brand of football though, is very exciting and has the potential to become a strong point of the league.
One small step for Australia, one giant leap for football
I went to the Sydney Derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers and I was right in the middle of The Cove. Whilst Sydney FC fans (not casual blow ins) did light flares, they kept them in The Cove and did not throw them onto the pitch. Western Sydney Fans through their flares onto the pitch very near their own goalkeeper. Whilst all of the Sydney FC fans booed this action, there were very few Western Sydney Fans not cheering the flares being thrown onto the pitch. Its not a bunch of casual blow ins, its the culture of the clubs. Football is typically a European sport and many of the fans are of European descent. Its very much a part of the fan experience at derby matches to light flares. I don’t think there is anything wrong with flares in the crowd as long as they’re not thrown onto the pitch. Western Sydney typically has poor culture surrounding their sporting teams.
Wannabe hooligans ruin A-League for the rest of us
I think association football would benefit far more from a new stadium. All other footy codes dig up the pitch which is fine for regular rugby use but when “soccer” is played on them, the ball moves terribly. Rugby does not rely as much on a “code guarded pitch” because the ball rarely comes into contact with the ground. I also think that Sydney has enough high capacity Rugby stadiums but not enough low capacity stadiums for the likes of soccer.
