The field has been announced, the barrier draw conducted, and now we have the final field for the 2016 Melbourne Cup.

Race favourite Hartnell has come out as the biggest winner of the Cup draw, picking up barrier 12 just to make him even harder to beat in the race that stops the nation.

Lexus Stakes winner and close second in the bookies market, Oceanographer will start right next to his rival in barrier 11.

Caulfield Cup winner Jameka has drawn tight into the fence at barrier 3, just next to Gallante who picked up the second gate.

Katelyn Mallyon will be out to repeat the feats of Michelle Payne last year as she starts in the saddle of Assign.

The Robert Hickmitt-trained gelding has drawn a less than ideal wide start at barrier 22.

Lee Freedman’s hopes for a sixth Melbourne Cup win will be resting on Exospheric who drew a very handy barrier 13.
