Breaking: Star filly on the rise, and Cox Plate favourite, Atlantic Jewel will not be racing this spring after suffering a tendon problem.

The boom daughter of Fastnet Rock had a knocked her off-fore leg which resulted in a lesion forming on the leg.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh has taken no risks in aborting the unbeaten star’s spring preparation.

“We will continue to assess the injury and it would be my opinion at this stage that she will be unable to resume full training for eight weeks,” said Kavanagh.

“It may be the end of the spring, but it’s not the end of the horse.”

Co-owner Lauri Macri telling Fairfax papers:

“Kav is really cut about it … It is a disaster in terms of the spring, but with time she will race again.

“It looks like a minimum of three months in the paddock.

“She is just one of those horses that can find a problem and we won’t be taking any risks with her.”

Atlantic Jewel has won all seven of her starts and was to be a star of the Spring Carnival after a decision to rest Black Caviar was made by connections.
