The 2015 Caulfield Cup has been run and won, with the pre-race favourite Mongolian Khan – ridden by Opie Bosson and trained by Murray Baker – claiming victory.
An impressive run from Trip to Paris saw it fall just half a length short of victory in second place, while Our Ivanhowe finished in third.
The start of the race saw Set Square in the lead, a position it then held for the majority of the race. However, Mongolian Khan loomed in the front half of the pack.
With 800m left in the race, Bosson made his move which saw Mongolian Khan shoot forwards to overtake Set Square and gain the lead.
Mongolian Khan then held the lead for the remainder of the race, winning the cup.
“That was awesome,” Bosson said. “Everything went to plan, we had the perfect run.
“He relaxed so good. I was probably exposed a bit earlier than I wanted to be but I knew he’d run the trip right out and I didn’t want to be boxed up.
“He just keeps going and won’t let anything past him. He still took a bit to pull him up as well.
“This is the biggest thrill of my career.”
