In case you’re scratching your head why guys like Scott Boland and Travis Head are in the Test squad and Australia A squad:

No room for Ben McDermott as Australia name full strength squads for Sri Lanka series

Thanks Brett. It’s been so long since COLA I forgot about the ‘cheating Swans’ narrative. I’m sure if they manage to win it this year the cheating claims will surface again.

BRETT GEEVES: Are the Swans still 'cheating with that bloody academy' - or time to cut them a break?

He said he had no regrets. Surprised a journo didn’t bring up AFLX when he said that!

It would have been a very interesting situation if James Pattinson didn’t retire. He was also injury-prone but they seemed to be willing to stick by him. Hazlewood also has been MIA for a lot of cricket.

'Goodness me:' Major shock as Jhye Richardson axed from Cricket Australia's contract list

A non contracted cricketer must feel a bit like a tennis player on the Challenger circuit. You can still play the big events if you ‘qualify’ but you have to work even harder to get there because of your ranking.

I think I know what you mean. Is it happening on all articles to you or just this one and a few random ones? There’s a chance that it’s only happening on articles that get updated and date changed.

Another blow for Australia's white ball teams with Mitch Marsh injured, Josh Inglis, Ashton Agar out with COVID

I haven’t experienced the rolling scroll thing. Can you send us an email with the exact problem and what browser you’re on to editorial@theroar.com.au and I’ll pass it onto the developer.

We’d be up to 100 articles by now if we did a news story for every update from Australia’s squad. 😛

Thanks for the memories Tim.

I was fortunate to be there in January 1999 at the MCG for one of the few occasions Shane Warne captained Australia.

Everyone remembers it for the game where Warnie was summoned to Bay 13 to settle down the crowd when they started chucking bottles onto the field.

It wasn’t the greatest game but Warne’s captaincy stood out. He was super aggressive with his field placings and he kept a slip in place for Michael Bevan deep into England’s innings which is unheard of in an ODI.

The 1999 World Cup was also special. They replayed THAT semi final on Fox Cricket and the way Warne turned that game was phenomenal. There was also a moment where Paul Reiffel dropped a sitter off Warne and you could hear Warnie show his displeasure into the stump mic. He was a competitor and there’s no doubt he gave the team extra belief that they could win (or tie in the 99 case) from any position.

And finally, a niche moment that popped up on Robelinda. Brian Lara came out to bat and Warnie bowled a BOUNCER first up. Like who even thinks to do that as a spin bowler against one of the all-time greats? Of course it was just all mind games from Warnie. No one was expecting it and then Lara lost his wicket two balls later. It clearly got into his head.

Super Rugby Pacific Round 1 teams: The star names and debutants in action

Thanks for the heads up robbo. Our tipping data comes from a third party and we were hoping it would update itself. Instead, we’ve had to do it manually. Unfortunately it’s probably going to be an ongoing issue this year as home and away teams swap due to COVID and border issues. We’d encourage everyone to double check their tips in case the changes affect things..particularly on the Force vs Brumbies match this week.

Concerns for Australia after Michael Neser injury in domestic cricket

The NRL needs to adopt a ‘Thanks New Zealand’ Round when this is all done and dusted. Incredible sacrifice by these players. I doubt any other NRL club would still accept ongoing hub-life.

Warriors make devastating call on their home season

Yeah I agree. It would have to be a dust bowl for them to pick two spinners straight away. A lack of any practice games denies Swepson the chance to get some confidence before the first Test and to show what he can do in those conditions. As much as I’d love to see it I can’t see them throwing a debut at him in the first Test.

'Where's he going to bat?': Former Aussie captain questions selection as squad announced for Pakistan tour

Will be a very tough decision on which pace bowlers to leave out if they get to the first Test and it’s a spinner-friendly wicket requiring two spinners. Who to pick? I think I’d go with Starc just to strengthen the batting and for his reverse swing capabilities.

David Warner
Usman Khawaja
Marnus Labuschagne
Steve Smith
Travis Head
Cam Green
Alex Carey
Pat Cummins
Mitch Starc
Mitch Swepson
Nathan Lyon

Have a feeling that that’s exactly what CA is asking Sri Lanka right now and to possibly arrive earlier.

Chappell-Hadlee series cancelled due to Kiwi quarantine concerns

This is where we need Robelinda to dig up a compilation of all the times Mark Waugh stopped the bowler because someone was behind the bowler’s arm.

Mark Waugh tells the batsman to get on with it after distractions near sight screen

Leach isn’t the first overseas spin bowler to struggle in Australia and he won’t be the last. The problem for touring sides is actually working out what they want their spinner to do. If it’s to be aggressive and take wickets then Bess is the best option but you have to back him to keep tossing it up. Leach couldn’t take wickets or keep the runs down and that’s a serious problem.

He’s the sort of bowler who needs to keep it tight first to then build pressure. He needs to take inspiration from guys like Jadeja and just fire in a few darts and slowly work into his spell. Easier said than done.

Say it isn't so: England could end up playing Jack Leach again

Buttler hasn’t played a Test in Australia yet. I think he’s one guy who will actually prefer the faster pitches.

Below average: Brittle batting numbers expose England's soft Ashes underbelly

I’m sure they will. It would have to take some very bad performances from Carey and an Inglis domination against the Lions for it to change you’d think but it’s good for Carey to know that there’s competition for his spot as with all the ‘fringe’ players.

Five key Ashes matchups: Who will win the games within a game?

When the squads were first announced this is what George Bailey said at the time.

“We will take this 15-player squad into the opening Test in Brisbane and the pink ball match in Adelaide, after which we can reassess for the remaining matches.”

That’s why the Australia A team is playing the England Lions on Thursday at the same time as the Ashes. The lack of cricket means they have to be flexible.

Five key Ashes matchups: Who will win the games within a game?

Hypothetical: England win the toss on Day 1 what does Joe Root do? Nasser Hussain 2002, Harmison 2006 first ball will be in his mind but it would still be tempting to bowl first with the lack of preparation from both teams.

Rain hampers England and Australia's Ashes preparations

0 for 34 off the first 11 overs today. Looks like the pitch has successfully been downgraded to ‘fill your boots’.
