I am passionate about most sport and a year ago I developed my own dedicated sports website for which I have written hundreds of daily content pieces (including audio) predominantly on Rugby League and Cricket, but also on the EPL and NFL. www.eye-of-the-tiger.org I am 31 years old, Sydney based, and for the past 10 years I have worked as a Level 2 professional cricket coach for Cricket NSW’s Indoor Cricket Centre and as a Primary School Teacher (Bachelor of Education) at Summer Hill Public School. Joe your right defensively they could have a very strong side. Which maybe I might have underplayed. I just really don’t like their spine. I think Foran is damaged good as harsh as that sounds, and plenty will revolve around him. If he gets back to his best he could turn this side into a Top 8 with their forward pack. However if he goes missing then I think there in a world of trouble.

Canterbury Bulldogs 2018 season preview and prediction

The Barry I am hoping Cleary plays him as a roving type player. I think he will bring plenty to the club int arms of spirit and culture. However his style of play can be a bit haphazard. He is certainly not an 800k type player which is what the club has paid. Anyway beggars can’t be choosers.

Wests Tigers 2018 season preview and prediction

Solid points Joe. However I think your a brave man tipping them to make the finals. Still they have some talent and if they fitter and mentally tougher anything is possible. Ill wait before I see evidence of it before I tip them to do anything.

New Zealand Warriors 2018 season preview and prediction

Maxwell would bat either 3 or 4 for me in the One Day team. Give him added responsibility and I think he would shine. Teams would be worried about him. He might not make runs every game, however gives Australia control of the team even if he only scores 30 or 40 because of his strike rate. He has shown a lot more maturity in some of his innings over the past 12 months.

Maxwell is Australia's one-day man. Someone tell Steve Smith

I think they re going to struggle. I am not sure they will be as bad as 15th however I don’t like their spine one bit. Foran has massive question marks whether he can regain fitness and focus. However Woods, Klemmer and Jackson is a really good pack. I think they will be similar to last season. The backs are slow for mine and will really struggle to capitalise on half chances for mine.

Pre-season preview: Dour Bulldogs will finish bottom four

Will I admit I am unsure mate, if it is 15 or 16. I will have a look into it. Sorry.

Aussie players who will miss the 2019 cricket World Cup

Mate just to be clear i didn’t write “they are not up to scratch” that was added in by the editors entirely. Originally this was all one article, however it was selected into 2 with this little intro paragraph that i didn’t write.

Aussie players who will miss the 2019 cricket World Cup

Very very interesting with Finch out tomorrow. White is nearly a lock at 3 and the opening spot is now upper grabs tomorrow. I would be very interested to see what they do. You would have to think White, Paine, Head and Maxwell are all in contention for 2 spots at the top of the order.

Could Glenn Maxwell be better at the top of the order?

Is hit and miss a bad thing Harvey? England don’t seem to mind with Roy and Hales? Maybe their case is even if they fire once every 3 or 4 games it is good enough, although they have a deeper batting order then Australia.

Could Glenn Maxwell be better at the top of the order?

Andrew I suppose if Maxwell comes in the only way you can play both Marsh and Stoinis is to bat Maxwell at 3. Unless they want to drop a bowlers like Cummins and play a deeper batting order with more all rounders.

Could Glenn Maxwell be better at the top of the order?

When I looked at my team i was slightly uncomfortable that it was the Test bowling line up. However I still think the best form of restricting the run rate is to take wickets. Australia did that the other night but Josh Buttler played a blinder. Hazelwood and Starc both have career economy rate under 5 in ODI cricket. Cummins would be the one under pressure if they wanted a reshuffle.

My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup

By the way I think it is madness people dropping Warner based on a few lean scores. Have a look at his Overall ODI record, it is better then anyone currently in the team let alone out of the team. He is the teams Vice Captain. He is ranked in the Top 5 ODI batsman in the World not that i pay much attention to rankings. I don’t think there is any chance whatsoever of him being ripped unless he has a terrible 12 months ahed in white ball cricket.

My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup

You could be right. I just think the World Cup in England will not be all crash and bash. It’s not a sub continent World Cup or even in Australia where 90% of the wickets are hard and flat. England in June you might need a more measured approach. However with the home side having a all guns blazing approach i’m sure they won’t be preparing green seamers, however overhead conditions can dictate plenty. I would not be against trying Maxwell at the top of the order at 3. He is a rare talent who can actually play some of his best cricket at the top with the field in.

My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup

Interesting points James. I would not be against trying someone like Maddinson or even Maxwell at 3 because Khawaja and Smith are not exactly the most explosive players. However with a World Cup in England I still think you pick your best batsman in the top order even if a little stodgy as you say. You might not get flat road where you have to score 330 just to be competitive all the time. A few people have questioned Warner’s form/production in ODI cricket however his overall record stacks up. I think he is too important to the team. Not only his batting, but his fielding and general competitiveness and niggle he brings to a youngish side.

My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup

Good points Liam. I was only pretty young in the 90’s however i just felt the wickets in Australia had more character in terms of their unique characteristics. The Stats don’t lie at some grounds. 7 of the highest 10 match aggregates in the history of The WACA in the last 12 years. Now were moving to a drop in surface in a new AFL stadium. SCG Tests have largely been run fests and dead rubbers over the same period. We have not had a compelling 5 Test Series in Australia for probably 20 years plus. There are other factors besides pitches of course but I thought both Melbourne and Sydney were pretty dire spectacles this season. Of course if it wasn’t a dead rubber it would have been better but the wickets still were not balanced for a good contest between bat and ball. I just think whilst crowds and interest where high this year Ashes only come around every 4 years and other summers are going to be harder to promote based on what we are watching.

Have flat pitches made Test cricket boring in Australia?

Bobbo I still think Smith is a great player. The averages 55 away from one which is up their with the very best of all time. I’m not saying it’s all about what they average overseas, but it provides a different picture With Smith, ou can’t do much more then average 76 at home, its an astonishing number really. My point of the article was more talking up some past players like Katich, Martyn, S Waugh and Border who perhaps played against stronger attacks around the world at the time on wickets with more in them

Have flat pitches made Test cricket boring in Australia?

Paul strong points about the quality of the opposition. That is not Australia’s fault. I did note that sides are more and more playing poorly on the road in test cricket these days. I don’t really have the answer for this although making the game 4 days and perhaps giving the opposition the right to choose whether they want to bat or bowl are worth considering. With regards to the pitches I just think we get better contests in terms of balance between bat and ball and the competitiveness of the match when there is more in the wicket.

Have flat pitches made Test cricket boring in Australia?

Both attacks showed signs of promise. Personally I prefer at attack with quality spinners as they have performed well historically in the BB: format. However Archer looked outstanding for the Hurricanes. Both Rose and Boyce for me are not a strong enough spin combination to get the Hurricanes to this season.

Five takes from Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades

I expect Short to be hot and cold given the way he bats. Plays plenty of aerial shots so could be all or nothing. I have seen a lot of Nabi however it’s clear lot of sides have targeted getting proven spinners as their imports this year. He changes his pace well for an off spinner so I expect him to do quite well, although there might be a few nerves on debut.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades: BBL07 preview and prediction

All fair points Paul. All time records or not Cook and Broad has not contributed at all this series. The headline is a little bit misleading. I didn’t really have a viable replacement for Cook, but I would bring Wood in for Broad. You say they have nothing left in the shed but how do you know until you find out? The lesser likes have stepped up and performed well for England this series.

Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook should be dropped for Melbourne

Marshall I love listening to the BBL games. Perhaps in 9’s defence it is a lot easier to look good calling a game that goes for 3 hours as opposed to 5 days. However Punter is very sharp and Mark Howard doesn’t overplay his role. I’m convinced if Nine did ever get the BBL they would make a meal of it.

Five talking points from Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers, BBL07 Match 1

Chris I have to agree it was a very ordinary effort from the Thunder outside of Watson with the bat. The point is you can hardly blame some of those guys as forcing the pace is not their natural game. I agree with you they are going to really struggle to win games. The Sixers were really sloppy last night.

Five talking points from Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers, BBL07 Match 1

First up game at home they might do a bit better then you think mate. However I agree there is a clear differential in class between the squads. The thing is though in T20 1 player can win you the game occasionally, if someone like Watson hits 100. I think the game will be closer then you think however I think it could be a long year for the Thunder.

Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers: BBL07 preview and prediction

They do look light in batting and fast bowling. Whoever put their squad together didn’t do a great job for mine.

BBL07 season preview: Sydney Thunder

Agree that i don’t think Anderson was bowled poorly. however his results out here are underwhelming once again. I would strongly consider dropping Broad although the Overton injury might save him.
