I am passionate about most sport and a year ago I developed my own dedicated sports website for which I have written hundreds of daily content pieces (including audio) predominantly on Rugby League and Cricket, but also on the EPL and NFL. www.eye-of-the-tiger.org I am 31 years old, Sydney based, and for the past 10 years I have worked as a Level 2 professional cricket coach for Cricket NSW’s Indoor Cricket Centre and as a Primary School Teacher (Bachelor of Education) at Summer Hill Public School. I thin Broad might be on the chopping block guys. Has been totally ineffectual. His batting also sets a poor example as a senior player. He might be saved by the Overton injury however I still would not be afraid to drop him.

Five thoughts From Day 2 of the 3rd Test

Don – Cartwright is an outstanding prospect, however he has struggled in T20 cricket. 16 games is not a huge sale size however he averages 22 with a poor strike rate of 107. They have an unbelievable bowling outfit however I think there are legitimate concerns about their batting this year. Happy to be proven wrong.

BBL07 season preview: Perth Scorchers

ODIs start on the 14 go Jan so it’s a fair point Head could miss up to the last 4 regular season games plus finals. I really like both their imports even thought they are not big names on our shores. I think both Ingram with he bat and Khan with the ball can provide big impact.

BBL07 season preview: Adelaide Strikers

Cheers Ryan. They will rely heavily on Stanlake being fit and firing to that that extra bit of spice to their attack. I actually think they could surprise a few people this year. Head, Weatherald and Lehmann areal local players on the way up and Ingram has plenty of experience. Will need to win most their home games as they tend to struggle a bit on the road.

Sorry Tom. I got mixed up with one of the Tri Series finals.

Five predictions for the Rugby League World Cup Final

Tim very well researched article. As a Tigers fan i’m disappointed the strong sides seem to be getting the rails run whilst struggling clubs are getting rough draws. The AFL generally tries to even the comp out by giving the lesser sides of the previous years better draws. NRL seem to do the opposite and it could hurt their produce if they continue to do so.

The ridiculously unfair 2018 NRL draw needs to be redone

NSW will still have Halewood, Copeland and Bollinger. Thats a pretty handy attack at that level. Renshaw will have his work cut out for him.

Five winners and losers from Round 2 of the Sheffield Shield

Probably harsh on my part not putting Bancroft on the 5 Winners in hindsight. Only reason I didn’t put Bancroft in was because I don’t see how he can seriously he considered for the Wicket Keeping role having kept in just 2 FC games. He could come in contention for the opening batting spot however I think (I could be wrong the selectors have Shaun Marsh and Joe Burns ahead of him if Renshaw slips up.

Five winners and losers from Round 2 of the Sheffield Shield

I think that has been a big part of the Footy Shows downfall. Matty Johns whatever people think of him is a great TV talent. Not only on screen however I am sure he has a large say on production. Very sharp mind. Once he left Nine the show fell apart if it already wasn’t losing relevance back then. Beau Ryan was funny for a year, but then became extremely unfunny he doing the sam gags etc. Erin does a really good job in a tough environment. However I don’t think personally she has the same presence or in-depth knowledge to host a successful and hard hitting show. Getting rid of Fatty just papers over the cracks. Rebrand it altogether with a new name, name team and mot importantly a new producer.

I come to praise Fatty, not to bury him

That’s the problem I have with Penrith guys. Things were on a it of a platter for them this season and their standard of play was ordinary. Even a lot of their wins I thought they got by on talent alone. They didn’t seem to have much of a plan inside the opposition 20 where they were particularly hard to watch. Plenty of their tries were through individual brilliance or unstructured play. Griffen doesn’t seem to be able to get the best out of them. His record foe mine is very underwhelming as a coach considering some of the rosters he has had at his disposal.

Penrith Panthers 2017 season review

I have to say I am more excited then usual for a RL World Cup. The fact both those boys are playing for Tonga adds some spice to the series. Very worried about NZ this world cup. I really don’t rate David Kidwell and their squad looks one of the weakest in years. I would be very surprised if they made the final with Australia.

The Kangaroos winning the RLWC is a foregone conclusion

I have to admit that FC record of 123 wickets @ 22 slipped under my guard a bit. Obviously has not had much with injury. With Starc or Cummins are to get injured he clearly looks like he is next in the frame.

Jason Behrendorff needs to be part of Australia’s Ashes plan

I have to admit guys I had them in my bottom 4 coming into the season. They did slip under the radar so teams will be better prepared from them next season. Blake Green I thought was a great foil for DCE.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 2017 season review

Ronan, appreciate the feedback thank you. Your 100% right Joe Burns is the forgotten man. I probably should have included him in my roughies given his decent Test and First class average. He never really looked like a comfortable opening batsman for mine at Test level despite performing well at times. Good on flat tracks, but plays a lot behind square.

Who will bat at No. 6 for Australia in the first Test?

I don’t mind that sort of old school thinking to be fair. When Australia had Gilchrist at 7 you could afford a number 6 that averaged somewhere the Mid 30s. These days I’m not sure we can get away with it, although in home conditions our top 5 can go big. I would probably pick Cartwright all things being equal. I just tried to look at it from the selectors viewpoint based on recent history.

Who will bat at No. 6 for Australia in the first Test?

Fair call mate. I guess my expectations of the Sharks this year were bottom of the 8,hence I thought they did pretty well. It’s tough for any side to lose 2 key players in the spine like Barba and Ennis and win consistently. I agree though that they played poorly for most of the season, however they did know hoe to grind out results even if it wasn’t pretty.

Cronulla Sharks 2017 season review

I think it is a fair point on the surface. Who are the players that the public really gravitate towards? I just think cricket is over exposed these days. There is too much of it and players are playing for 5 different sides in the one year. The build up to the Ashes this summer will continue to be underwhelming.

Have we lost our love for the Australian cricket team?

Cheers guys appreciate the feedback. I just think that Woods an Foran do not necessarily address the Dogs weaknesses being a lack of spark and pace. Foran has has injury issues and has generally been at his best with a dominant play maker alongside him. I know James Graham wasn’t at his best however his influence around the dressing room will be missed. I just think the heart has been ripped out of the club in some respects and the Salary Cap situation is not ideal. Change of coach could be a big positive however Pay is a rookie and in my opinion will have his work cut out with that roster.

Canterbury Bulldogs 2017 season review

This sums it up best for me Adam. This side finished with a positive differential. However they just lost too many games in the final 15 minutes when they needed their playmakers to step up. The side certainly lacked some leadership and direction during the clutch moments.

Canberra Raiders 2017 season review

Fair call Paul Jack De Belin was really strong this year. Most of the Dragons pack i thought were great although they did looked banged up towards the end of the season. Whilst the loss of Packer is a big one a rejuvenated James Graham will be a good signing and a great boost in the dressing room in terms of his leadership.

St George Illawarra Dragons 2017 season review

I tend to agree Albo. Whilst I still think Reynolds is a high callable NRL player sometimes he is too passive for me. However he is the best goal kicker in the NRL which is very valuable for any side, that is something that is not replaced easily. I just think he needs to do more with his passing game and generally as he provides no running threat Souths can struggle in the halves. He had no problems in 2014 however they had a beast of a forward pack then with Issac Luke, Teo and the Burgess boys on the top of their game.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 2017 season review

Apologies Marshall about the Bills, I know they are in the AFC East, was a typo on my behalf. Be interesting to see if some of these teams like the Bills, Rams, Redksins, Eagles etc can keep it going. It looks a wide open type of season.

Five takeaways from the first four weeks of the NFL season

Ronan your exactly right – Stoinis is a big chance of playing in that number 6 role in the Ashes if Maxwell continues to falter. The Selectors have shown their hand over the past couple of years picking all rounders in that number 6 positions. I’m a little bit old school I don’t mind simply picking the best batsman at Number 6 however with a hot Australian summer and injury prone picks he could really come into the mix.

Stoinis bolts into Ashes contention

Cheers Ronan. I like the look of your side however I think Gary Balance is a gritty sort of player that England might need. Bairstow, Ali and Root have high strike rates and will naturally score quickly. Balance can look very ugly however his FC average of 48 and Test average of 37 suggests he knows his game and trusts his game. Vince and Malan might have poor talent but are unproven. I can’t see Stokes touring either. I would lean towards this batting line up of….

1. Cook
2. Stoneman
3. Root
4. Balance
5. Vince
6. Bairstow
7. Ali
8. Stokes replacement or Foakes ir Bairstow does not take the gloves.
9. Woakes
10. Broad
11. Anderson

Why Joe Root must bat at No.3 in Australia

I think this has been the most exciting Storm side I can remember. They did used to be quite methodical and robotic however with those 2 flying wingers they played more expansive game this year. They were certainly the leaders in the wrestling side of Rugby League a decade or so ago, I think that is where a lot of the resentment comes from. Plus the fact some of those super stars signed 2 contracts during that Salary Cap mess. Even if you don’t like them you certainly have to respect them. I wouldn’t write them off doing it again next season even without Cronk.

The Melbourne Storm are great, not boring
