RAF, the finger up the bum was sexual assault. If it happened today i wouldn’t be surprised if the police got involved.

Hi Barry, obvious to some. We’ll see what happens to burgess.
The NRL needs to open its eyes
Agree Derek, i was going to compare the punishments to that in rugby as they are alot more severe, justifiably. But alot of league people tend to get defensive when using rugby as a measuring stick.

Fantastic article……the pass is truly the most beautiful part of the game. One of the best passes i have witnessed and probably not thought of as such was the bergkamp header assist to kluivert in the 98 WC against Argentina. Presence of mind to use the head first time , and the skill level to weight the header into space appropriately.
The best element of the beautiful game? Ancient philosophers Socrates and Laozi discuss!
I must admit i didn’t really look at it from the perspective that Folau should have inherently assumed the comments he made would be deemed so negatively. Then when you actually think about it only an idiot would not realise that. Maybe ill go work for the ACL and use my free speech to promote buddhism. Nice article Socrates.

If it isn’t about the money but principles as he said to Alan Jones why doesn’t he fund the fight himself. Seems to me his principles has a price!

I remember when the Mariners sold Jedinak for it was reported at the time for $1.something with a % of any ongoing fee. The mariners traded in the black for that year only because of that fee. Good decision glory, the money can used for so much. But agree a-league clubs don’t get enough money for some of our transfers.
Why Perth Glory was right to sell Jason Davidson
Its hard to weigh up offers and salaries as rugby is such a closed market. Hooper getting $6 mil for 5 years is based on supply and demand. Demand is closed off to those with Australian passports and supply is based on those with Australian passports willing to play in Australia.
As Rhys Bosley promoted a historical article I will too. Please read my article about the current structure of rugby and how players don’t remuneration is based on nationality in many cases.

But Tupou $1mil offer for mine is on the money, he will go down as one of the best props to play the game, his open play dynamism for a prop has no peer and he will learn to scrummage better in the coming years. Kerevi $800,000 was fair enough, maybe $900,000 tops and I am very surprised he got a $1.2 offer in japan. Hooper reported salary is a little too much, $900,000 would have been on par, but then again as the 2nd best openside in the country not going to retire soon the supply and demand thing explains a lot.
Talk of a million too much for Tupou
Correction: looks like channel 10 and WIN not the ABC will be showing the doco in the not to distant future.

Bolt, Murray, Devine all those people are best ignored how they come up with their points of view i dont know. Anyway thanks for noticing what goes on out there. Awareness itself is the first but very hard step to take tackling discrimination in all its forms.

Hi Penguin. Great comment. Sorry if my article was superficial in nature as i was only responding tongue in cheek to sam newmans Twitter post. And i was trying to allude to what utter bs it was that the booing started after goodes taunted the carlton supporters. The afl is extremely tribal why would other clubs care what happens to carlton supporters. I myself am not looking forward to watching the doco as i hate seeing racism, i hope your son has it easier than past generations and i would hope he has never had to deal with something direct upon himself,i felt i had it hard but then i think what my father went through when he first came to Australia in the early 70s. But lets hope the “conversation leads to a better aus”.

Hi Angela, not sure i agree with all that you said. But thank you for your considered comment. I suspect this will come up again once shown on ABC for the masses. I cannot judge Newman’s role until then, but even mcguire has showed some grace in what has been portrayed. I suspect in newmans case a mirror was put up and he didn’t like what he had seen.

The time lag between the doco being shown at the film festivals and when it will be shown on ABC is unfortunate. All this commentary with no context.

Hi Jonboy, i am not sure if i got my message across, wouldn’t surprise me if i didn’t, i am an amateur at this, but do you think it a long bow to pull from newman that fans all around the country felt for the blues supporters that day he did the war dance and booed him because of that (i did). I thought fans of the other clubs might have been thinking to themselves in re to those blues supporters ‘suck on that one’.

Awesome win Matilda’s….so glad i was wrong. Group becomes really interesting now to.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
Hi Lucas, fantastic write up. Agreed with most of what you said. I too am aware of the unexpected success of Atlanta Utd, but wasn’t really privy to how they did it. As a mariners fan, i remember the days of Mckinna and not that he was special tactically, he had an eye for talent and getting the best out of them. He was responsible for alot of those signings that gave arnold the team that won the a-league and the consistency we experienced before then. Miss those days now the jets get the benefit of his football intellect.
Australia isn't ready for Australian coaches
Surely dismissal. I am not sure what the constitution is of the ffa and the process around sacking board members, but in the case of Reid you would hope that she would fall on her sword and resign. But who in Fifa….oh oh i mean ffa resign willingly.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
Hi Kanga, yeah agree the matildas are the flavour of the month at the moment. And thats why i referenced m tuckermans article. My ‘fresh’ perspective was more to do with though the girls and coaches have had 5 mths to get over things, the apologies, coaching inexperience and change in defensive structure will in hindsight be seen as elements in a futile attempt to lift the world cup. And i am yes a negative nellie just calling out that because of all that they wont make it out of the group. I really really hope i am wrong and will eat humble pie accordingly. I just feels alot like the socceroos where sometimes hope masks realism.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
No worries Jordan,
Got to expect that when brave enough to put your name to an opinion. Anyway, i really do hope i am wrong and the aussies do get through. The best 3rd placed teams might be our saving grace.
I hope the problems at the back are easy to fix…but i think our problem might be more to do with the mental side of things coming from both the off field issues and poor result in the warm up and our opening game. Slippery slope but again hope i am wrong.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
I like the Irukandji’s and taipans. Tactical change is absolutely needed to get past brazil.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
Really hope so! I am quietly hoping that milicic’s insistence in the media to not change anything when he actually will is all part of the plan to get over brazil.
The Matildas have little hope – but don’t blame them
Puzzling Dutski, why did munster have to officially complain when it was there in plain sight. Garbage in garbage out.
