A lover of all things sport. Admittedly biased towards all Australian teams and players. Tennis is my main game.

Thank goodness for that. Mundy didn’t appear to have the leadership qualities required, and Fyfe leads by example better than anyone else. Only way is up for Freo from here I think
Fyfe edges out Mundy to become Fremantle skipper
He had a terrific first season, winning the premiership. But since then I feel he has always under performed, and was out coached in their loss to Sydney in the prelim last year. Not saying he’s a bad coach (he might be) but that I wouldn’t be rushing to extend his contract if I were Geelong.
Does Chris Scott deserve a contract extension?
Would love to see Swepsen get a game. As for Mitch Marsh, I don’t see the point of picking him after dropping him for Cartwright in the Sydney test.
That said, I don’t really see the point of picking him either way. Hope he proves me wrong!
Australia shaping nicely for India after impressing itself in warm-up
Not a bad few predictions, especially the one that the side will change dramatically from the first test against Pakistan to the first test against South Africa.
Although it would have been more surprising for Clarke not to upset someone LOL.
And as you said, thank goodness you were wrong about Cummins!
Revisiting my XI non-bold predictions for Australia's summer of cricket
As much as I love Federer, I have trouble calling him the GOAT when he has a 23-12 losing record to Rafa. But for Rafa’s losing record to Novak, and the fact he has 4 less slams that Fed, you can’t call Nadal the GOAT either. It’s a complex issue, but for me, if Djokovic can win a few more slams (currently on 12) he is the closest thing to a GOAT in tennis.
Has Federer's 18th settled the GOAT debate?
All good. He’s certainly a useful player to have in the system if required.
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
After where they finished last season, you’d really hope so. But under the new leadership of Heppell things should start to improve. they have a solid team and are well coached. That was the biggest standout last year, despite the lack of talent they had on their team. Finals in a couple of years I think
The only way is up for Essendon in 2017
The Giants can absolutely do some serious damage come September. They are probably equal favorites for the flag along with the other mob from NSW, the Swans. Dynasty in the making.
The Giant in September
As a Crows fan, I’d have Tex Walker slightly ahead of Sloane, although it is very close. When Walker is on song, we are extremely tough to beat. But we have managed to win matches with Sloane being down due to the Crouch Brothers and Thommo stepping up. Brodie Smith is pretty big off of half back too
Your club's most important player in 2017
Top 5 is pretty on the money for me, but I think Chris Scott is rated too highly. I thought he was out-coached in the Cats prelim final loss to Sydney, and hasn’t had the influence on his team that someone like Alan Richardson has had. I rate Richardson very highly, and think the Saints are going places with him. Every thing else I agree with mostly.
AFL coaches: Pre-season power rankings
Pretty much on the money I think. The defense for Collingwood is the main issue, as well as the health of their forwards as you mentioned. I can see them making the finals if they have a terrific season, but anything short of their best will see them miss out again I think.
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
Nevill is easily the best gloveman in the country. I have never had an issue with his on field leadership either, but it is often hard to tell on TV. If he can continue his good form with the bat, he should definitely find himself back in the national team.
Henriques comes out in defence of Nevill's on-field chatter
The flip side to that argument though is that they play away finals against teams like Geelong, Collingwood, St Kilda and the Bulldogs at the MCG, their home ground.
It does work as a negative when as a home team it is a 50/50 crowd, but as an away team when it is a 50/50 crowd, it is a positive for the Hawks that interstate sides do not get.
Is the home ground advantage all but gone in Victoria?
I agree. The fact that Carlton play some home games at the MCG and Collingwood play at Etihad and so-forth is ridiculous. The fact that Geelong and the Bulldogs have to play their home finals at the MCG is also crazy, and this is coming from a Crows fan. There are still many advantages for Victorian teams though, as they play at their home ground, all be it as an away team occasionally, more often than they play away from their home ground.
There is nothing that can really be done about this I don’t think, but you raise an interesting point.
Is the home ground advantage all but gone in Victoria?
You’re right. It doesn’t get much worse than the Knicks!
The Chicago Bulls: When money out-ranks winning
I’d like to see Sam Rowe in their team. I think he adds a bit to their defense. Everything else is pretty accurate I would say
Carlton's best 22 for 2017
Joe Root and Virat Kohli are great to watch, and Root should make a great captain. I’m still waiting for the day that Smith’s technique fails his career, but it doesn’t seem to be coming. You could add in Jason Holder for WI too. It’s certainly a new generation!
Cricket's future is officially in the hands of the next generation
Pretty good game all things considered. Westbrook showed his greatness, while the Warriors big four just did their thing. Great seeing the OKC faithful getting into it, adds a storyline to the next meeting between the two teams. What else would be great.. seeing OKC fall to the 8th seed and face GS in round 1!
Kevin Durant has answer as OKC fans boo
Big Sarah Perkins has been a joy to watch, along with Erin Phillips and Chelsea Randall. The match up between Carlton and Adelaide could be telling come seasons end. As for Brisbane, they really are looking like the best side in the comp. Might give the fellas a run for their money!
Skills up, scoring too! Five talking points from AFL Women's Round 2
Yes you are right about Sousa, thank you.
I’ve always loved Millman’s attitude and work ethic, and I think Davis Cup should be an opportunity to reward people like him, Thompson and in a few years, De Minaur.
Alex Bolt is great to have around the squad if there is a lefty on the other team especially. As you say he has great doubles skill, and just recently beat De Minaur at a challenger event, and also made the doubles final there.
Watching him and Blake Mott in AO quallies was great, they both played some terrific tennis.
As for the team to take on the U.S, I agree we should keep the same team. Only weakness is that Peers doesn’t play singles and Groth has fallen back in singles, largely due to his injuries. But I think it’s a good team nonetheless.
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
What a match, and what a week in general. We may never see these two legends compete against each other on the highest stage ever again, but it was worth the long wait between meeting 34 and 35!
The Fed Express stood tallest at the Australian Open
That’s what I’d expect and hope. But there’s time for them to work it out, and ultimately Hewitt has put a lot of work into Bernie over the past 1-2 years, so he won’t want that all to go to waste
There’s also the possibility that Kyrgios does something stupid and Tomic comes in for him.
As you say though, most likely it will be the same squad.
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
Just last week Aidan. He cited scheduling reasons for his absence, but common thought is that it is because of his dad’s feud with tennis Australia over funding for Sara Tomic.
Thompson or Tomic: Who should play Davis Cup in April?
Buckley is definitely out of there if they have a bad season again, and I would say the same for Hardwick. As for Ken Hinkley, it is tough because he has done so well previously, but a third straight down year would probably signal change at Port Adelaide.
Which coaches will sink and swim in 2017?
