Hi Geoff, was also reflecting on the Reds’ ‘double-bye’ and how it’s far from ideal. What about sending them to play in the Hospital Cup? Not nearly the level to replicate SR but it’s a run-around. Plus some youngsters would be able to see Mcreight, Tupou et al up close and maybe even meet them.
The Wrap: The Reds ride the bumps all the way to Super Rugby grand final
Excellent, as always, Geoff. The Highlanders upset win was the highlight of the weekend for me. Couldn’t believe it was happening! I think a star may have been born in Connor Garden-Bachop.
The Wrap: Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa anxiously hovering on the bubble
I like them too, but I reckon Latu would also be a huge asset. Will be interesting to see what calls they make.
Aussie abroad: Hugh Pyle
What do you think about Rory Arnold? I suspect he could be one of the two overseas selections.

Haha… Yes, a few vented their feelings over TMc. It might have been a few years in the making.

Hey SMI, yep we haven’t produced any Sam Whitelocks or Retallicks have we? But who else has? Maybe only AW Jones and Maro Itoje are in their company. But NZ can really develop a player. They’ve got us there.

Well punned, Paul. Yeah i feel it’s huge for the older guys who have wives and families… The travel for the normal Super Rugby competition must be a big disruption for them.
Aussie abroad: Hugh Pyle
Hey Boom, yeah HP was just ripening when he left. Oz would not have seen his best. Some good names there on your list.
Aussie abroad: Hugh Pyle
Cheers Jez. New chapter for him. Will see how he goes in Bayonne. Michael Ruru, Alofa X 2 and Izaia Perese also on the roster there.
Aussie abroad: Hugh Pyle
Thanks Mz, yes Pyle’s comments are not flattering, but you’re right that TMc does have a trophy on his cv. He must do somethings right.

Hey Greysy, thanks for the comments. You’re entitled to stick it to McGahan so fair play to you. It’s fair to say that he didn’t preside over a very successful era at Melbourne. Pretty much par for the course there.

Hey Mitch, thanks for that. Fair comment by you. I think it’s good when the players speak their mind. Better than the platitudes we’re so often served up. Others may rate TMc, but Pyle doesn’t and expressed that openly. Fair game.

Nice list. I saw a nearly hairless ‘incredible Schalk’ a couple of years ago at Allianz Park playing for Saracens. Still pretty good in his mid-30s. It’s hard to go past Habana as their very best. Os ‘the Ox’ Du Randt has to be up there.
My top five Springboks of all time
Hi JN, yep there’s some pretty contented foreigners playing rugby in France these days.
Aussie abroad: Tala Gray
Thanks Mitch. Yeah, it would be great for Aussie rugby if they not only come back, but return as better players. There are plenty of reasons for them to stay abroad, though.

I suspect you’re right, Geoff but i wish that wasn’t the case. I feel that the positives would far outweigh any potential negatives. For the health of the sport, our franchise teams should be going the extra yards imho.
